Worth noting is for a lot of these shots I used a low resolution, and lack of screen filtering? Why? Because I'm a dumb arse, lol They don't tend to impact performance too much (2x SAI + Smooth more take the biggest hit, which isn't much).

The above shot I didn't do correctly, but I will leave it up to show that even some apparent graphics errors are not caused by the graphics plugin, but by the testers (choosing wrong options in graphics plugin etc).

October 4th, 2003, 02:38
dude there are some real bug problems with it for windows98 users and plus a month means we can have enough time to find more bugs whether or not they are smaal bugs or major bugs.also schibo has updated his audio plugin and released a new patch for the beta:).
Hexidecimal
October 4th, 2003, 02:38
I'd rather see them Beta it a month, and release it as bug free as possible then have them release 6 dozen betas.

The simple answer is: Because it will, and Schibo/Rice do not have infinate time, contray to popular belief they don't sit around 12 hours a day programming this thing.
Anyway, banjo-tooie screenies time!

Perhaps you are right, maybe now that they say that Windows 98 is having problems, it could wait a bit, I didnt think there were that many bugs.
Although they say theyd rather have one then to have 6 dozen Betas, I wouldnt mind having the 1964 0.9.9 released earlier, then have a 1.0.0 absolutely perfect.
That reminds me, does anyone on the Beta Testing team use Windows ME (yes Ive said it but it sucks, Im getting a new computer in December probably).

as far as iknow i haven't seen any one on the team that has windowsme. One of them might but i don't know.

If not, then I guess if it does what ZSNES does to my computer, then Ill live until I get another comptuer. I doubt that will happen. If Windows 98 is having problems then ME will, just cause they are a little similar, Ill just have to go on that

A few questions:
1) With any emulator on which I've ever run Blast Corps, if it runs at all, the intro logos fly by at an insane speed, then the game continues on semi-perfectly. The framerate is good, but the sound and video stutters every second or so. I highly doubt that it's my system specs. Is this a problem in 1964 0.9.9?
2) With any emulator on which I've ever run Megaman 64, the framerate stutters horribly about halfway through the intro. Once again, I highly doubt it's my system specs. Is this still a problem in 1964 0.9.9?
3) Like everyone's already asked, how does Kirby look? Is it still glitchy as hell?
4) Would someone mind posting some screenshots of other levels in Goldeneye, namely, Surface 1?
Any answers would be appreciated.

I do not think you are using 0.9.9, I doubt you are on the beta team. Megaman 64 has always had issues. Try PJ64 if you have problems with stuttering, PJ64 is more stable. Edit: you should try to post in a better spot than this as well, post in the actual 1964 part of the forum, NOT screenshots
Moogly Guy
October 6th, 2003, 05:58
Well, sorry, jeez. At least I tried to keep it halfway on-topic by asking for a Kirby screenshot. Wait, wait, I must have been imagining other people (without 1964 0.9.9, I'm sure) asking for screenshots of game x running under the most recent beta, right?
EDIT: Apparently you need to improve your reading skills as well, buddy, since NOWHERE did I imply that I had the beta. Did you just read two words into my post and then decide that I was a newbie and that my post was not worth spending the rest of your precious, precious time on? It certainly seems that way, since in both question 1 and question 2 I made it abundantly clear that I was asking if it was an issue in 0.9.9. Anyone who bothered to read it would realize that that implies that I do not have the most recent beta. Would you lighten up, please? In case it makes you feel any better, I re-posted my questions in what seemed to be a more appropriate thread in the 1964 forum.

Sure. But here's an idea - how about simple interpolation (like NeoRageX, Gens, Nebula). It's pretty fast and although it doesn't make gfx looking sharper it's still waaaay better than blocky raw pixels.

In fact, my 2xSAI and 2xSAI smooth filters do not work very well for this game. I believe this game was programmed very poorly, and it loads textures very inefficiently . Of course my plugin is neither efficient enough to handle the inefficient texture loading in this game and my 2xSAI filters are not efficient enough to process so many textures in time on my slower machine. As the result, the VI will drop from 40 VI/s to 3 VI/s if I turn on the 2xSAI and 2xSAI smooth filter, and to 6 VI/s if the 2xSAI filter in on without the smooth filter.
The 2xSAI filters are working fine for most other games though, just not for this game (and other similar poorly programmed games. They were badly programmed because they were ported from other platform without turely fitting to N64 hardware and graphics style. I don't like such fighting games anyway because of their ugly 2D graphics. )

Revolt running / some notes>
Default for this game is CF4 which runs smooth but crashes after about 20 seconds. CF3, 2 and 1 also crash quicker (the lower the CF the quicker the crash). CF5 or above run with a little more stutter (CF5 is bearable and playable though), most importantly CF5 and above don't *seem* to crash from my initial playtesting.
This was done on my Athlon 900mhz not on the P4 2ghz

Loook at these screenshots, quite impressive if you ask me.
Curiosity: I have noticed that the beta testers are running the October 6th, private release; Has there been less bugs found in this private beta, or is Schibo getting busy with his personal life again?
(Im wondering if things are going as planned, it just seems like its getting better)

Well, Graphically, Conker's BFD runs the same as it did on Jabo's, since Rice's does not support it at this point. It looks darn good, but not different from Jabo's. Note that if you have a GF3, Jabo's looks significantly better than it does on a GF2. I just got a FX 5200, and it looks far better now than it did with my GF2 TI 64. Let me know what you are looking for specifically with Majora's Mask and I'll try to find out for you.

There always were problems with lightning effects (especially in the Bomber's Hideout). Also, on Day 1 and 2, the sky looks green instead of blue (at least that's what I thought it was). And a good look at the sun might be of relevance.
I hope I'm being understood so far :o

Someone wanted to see a picture of Smash Brothers without the black box enveloping the character when they are in the air. This picture was taken using the latest released version of GL N64. Although the framerate in this picture looks really bad a few things to note:
The drop isn't that noticeable
It only happens for a very short amount of time

The sound is better than Jabo´s Direct Sound 1.5?.
I see the game a little dark

Has this game ever had sound? I don't think so has it... still hasn't if that's the case.
As for the darkness, that can be rectified :)

I dont think Jabo's Dircet sound has ever worked on 1964, I do not think it ever will either

Jabo's Direct Sound 1.5 does work with 0.9.9, but you need PJ64's RSP plugin (or another RSP) to use it.

yes, how IS the sound over all in the new beta? sound is the worst part of most n64 emus that i have got to run successfully (sp?).
not that it matters THAT much when i can still lay some shinock ownage. :P

The sound is nigh on perfect for 90% of the games using Schibos audio. Known problems such as Twisted Edge snowboarding, Hyrdo thunder, The world is not enough etc are still problems though.

In that case I will check properly later.
Edit/// Just tried it again with Schibos audio, and sound was present. Then retried it and sound had gone again... I'll try some other audio plugins out later, and I'll mention this to other beta testers see if they can repeat it.

Curiosity:
I wonder, would you recommend Schibo's audio for 0.9.9 in this case? or would Azimer's plugin be better to use?
I am surprised that Jabos directsound plugin works for this new version, impressive, but I think that Azimer's has always been better when it came to speed in particular, the quality was similar

Personally I am astounded at Schibos Audio, it works pretty much perfectly with most games. I don't tend to change it much, but I may try some speed/quality comparisons with one of Azimers plugins + Jabos later.

How does the echoes in zelda oot sound with schibo's new plugin? (in the temple of time for instance) It sounds horrible with all plugins I've tried...

that is a SHAME because mk4 (which is much more advanced and completely 3d) kicks serious ass.
it's my FAVORITE n64 game (atm) ;) i'm not very faithful to favorite games:
mario 64 then
puzzle league then
destruction derby then
california speed then
dr mario then
ocarina of time and now
mk4. actually though with multiplayer mk4 has been my fave for over a year!!!
go try it out, and learn all of the shinock transformations and combos... (this is how i relentlessly beat on my gf and bass player), though my gf is pretty ruthless with tanya.
:D
so you think mk4 is a GOOD fighting game?? you should try mk trilogy.. it has hella lots of combos. mk4 was a disappointment for me i was a loyal fan to mk series but they did shit about mk4.. mk5 is ok but for me mktrilogy is by far the best of them all.. lots of chars and unlike mk4 everybody has unique combos.
tell me one day i`ll show you how easy is mk4 everybody has similar combos.. i bet i can get you real easy..
back to topic.. still nba hang time is slow ingame mode??

Wow looks great. It great to see that the 1964 original author is going out with a BANG! The best news i hear is that sound is better cause this really is where any real improvements are made in n64 emu. I heard a long long while ago that azi was helping out is this still the case??.. Oh and finally how is the speed hit on framebuffer emulation???
Sorry havent been round here for ages....

Please, everybody. Do us a favor. This is screenshots submission, not Q&A time. Ask in the 1964 forum, dont clutter this area up.
Grand: Framebuffer is still slow. It's one of those things the n64 was designed to do but the PC wasn't.

I saw him in a server with WaveRace. Alls you do is run two instances, yeah. Very possible to play your friend at home and another friend at the same time on his computer in a three player game.

You can actually tell from that the PI counts are different on the statusbar. I ran two instances of 1964, and I wanted to show how well they are in sync.
