Zelda: Majora's Mask at Romani Ranch, microcode / access violation bug

I've already searched just about everywhere on the planet for a solution to this problem, and found nothing.

There was already a thread started on this, but there never was a resolution found for the bug: http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8312

The problem is that when you talk to Romani, as soon as the cutscene is supposed to begin that shows the cows being abducted by aliens, the game suddenly freezes with a microcode error. Now, I resolved this by entering in the MC number into the registry. Now, it gives me an access violation in the graphics plugin error.

I have tried changing all of the graphics' settings, even putting it in wireframe mode. I also have changed drivers, and even used older versions of these drivers, and have also upgraded AND downgraded my NVidia drivers. Also, I have tried to run the game on other emulators aside from P64. None of them run the game, and the ones that do fail at this point as well.

The "solution" for the last time this issue was discussed was to create a save state right before this occurs. I have created three seperate save states at various points before this point in the game, all of which always fail. I tried to restart the day, and even come at different times during the day, and nothing works.

I can honestly say I've tried pretty much everything humanly possible to resolve this, with no results. I'm content to just cheat the game and give myself the mask, song and bottle you get afterwards, but I can't get Epona (even though I don't need her). I also want to see the entire thing for myself. I got to this point earlier in the game, when I wasn't suppose to, by cheating, and it displayed the cutscene just fine (this was in another game, not in my saved game).

This is a VERY annoying problem. I doubt anyone will have an answer for me other than "you're screwed," but I figured I'd post anyway.

native saves

In the thread you point to there was a resolution for one person: use an in-game save.

If you are not using native (in-game) saves, you must do this. Many games will become corrupted and will eventually crash if you try to play the whole thing using only PJ64 save states. Most games are not designed to allow for this - it is like a person sat down and played the game continuously 24 hours a day until it was done.

If you tried that (and checked your rom to make sure it is a good rom - you forgot to mention that) then you are probably screwed.

The last time I saved before that point was a few minutes before I went to the ranch, as I had just warped back to the first day. I'd saved numerous times before that, as I was using the standard saves, for the mostpart, before this happened.

You could try putting the emulator onto Intepreter mode just for that point to see if that helps... worth a try anyways.

Hi,
I've already finished this game and I never get this error (I have a P4 with NVidia Geforce 2 MX - 32 Mb). May be the ROM image is corrupted !
Why not downloading another ROM file and give it a try.
