Yoshi's Story problem(s)

Hi, I know there've been lots of posts about Yoshi's Story in the past, but none of them helped me out much. I'm hoping to use PJ64 1.6, which is what I first tried, but I've had the same problem with 1964 0.9.9, so I put this in the General 64 forum. So far, the most successful video plugin I've tried has been Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6, but I've also tried glN64 0.4.1, Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5.2, Rice's Daedalus 5.2.0, Rice's Video plugin 6.1.1 and Unofficial DaedalusD3D8 0.08 release 3. All of which had more problems than Jabo's D3D8 one. Okay, the problem is that Yoshi doesn't show up. His tongue is visible when it comes out, eggs behind him are visible, but he's just not there. Also, the screen frequently flickers so that the whole screen is squeezed to half width and drawn over itself. One more thing (though it doesn't really bug me) - the petals on the health flower are all vertical. I'm not too good at explaining it so there are some attached screenshots. Any help is appreciated.

At your service, dood!
if screenshot one is from Jabo's Direct3D8 - You can get rid of the bug by unchecking "hide advanced settings" in video settings, reopening the video settings dialog and entering the last tab: set the emulated width to 320 and height to 240;

Other than that, the other bugs are probably due to your old video hardware, most plugins require a fairly recent bit of kit, you might want to try Glide64 and the wrapper included... although that uses Opengl quite heavily and your card may not support that enough either.

The petals is a bug even I get with jabo's plugins.

Changing the emulated size fixed that flickering bug, but Yoshi still isn't visible. I tried the Glide plugin, but it has the same problem (not to mention a much lower framerate). Any other suggestions?
