I hate to rain on your parade, but there is an answer to this. Good ol ex Boy Scouts like myself would know that this is called a fuse Fusing a rope is used to prevent unraveling. Depending on the type of rope, there are different ways to do this. For a old fashioned twine rope, you use small pieces of string and a variation of the clove hitch knot to tie it off. With a plastic rope, you melt the ends so they can't unravel. And with a shoelace, you put a plastic wrap around it as seen above.
