Got the same problem.
Yeah, I've got the same problem, but I'm wondering if there isn't any use of that white texture thing...
Since the texture isn't at all like the original, or correct, texture, but rather looking like some kind of fur/hair-bumpmap, I'm wondering if this could be some kind of implementation of Detail-maps... When you get close enough it shows up, and that's about the same way detail-maps work too, they add bump-noise when you get too close to the surface to make it look more irregular and less boring.
I was wondering if this white map could be a detail-map of some kind, but it's being emulated wrong, and instead of applying it as a bump, it's placing it as a regular texture, on top of the regular one.
Anyone who owns the game and could look if it is this way on a real Nintendo?
