USB adapter won't recognize any button presses

I bought a PSX/N64 adaptor on eBay a while ago and I had it working perfectly but I recently reformatted my computer and now I'm trying to get it working again. I plugged it into my USB port and it installed the driver and everything successfully but when I try to configure the buttons in the controller setup in the emulator it doesn't recognize anything. No buttons, no nothing. Can anyone help me?

I don't like Castlevania
Which input plugin are you using? Does it work with other emulators/games?

I've tried both Jabo's and N-Rage's plugins but neither of them work. I also tried going to the control panel to see if i needed to calibrate it or something but it wouldn't even register anything there. I also tried it on the 1964 emulator but it was the same thing.

It's almost like it's a problem with windows recognizing it or something. I noticed that if I flip the switch to the PSX side windows recognizes that I'm pushing the joystick down and to the right but I'm clearly not doing that... Is there some kind of driver I need or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, so, I hate to say it, but... I think the problem might lie in the adapter itself. I tried it on a friends computer which is running XP but it was the same thing. I have noticed something that might be helpful to know though... On the configuration thing on the windows control panel I've noticed that if I flip the switch to the PSX side, it registers that I'm pushing the joystick down and to the right, which I clearly am not doing. If anyone knows of anything I can try to fix it I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

yeah it probably is just a bad adapter, i heard similar story's. but just to make sure i would try another n64 controller and maybe try a PSX conroller as well.
