US may have downed RAF plane
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain says it appears a Royal Air Force plane that went missing in the Gulf had been shot down by a U.S. Patriot missile. :doh:

Mistakes happen, especially when people are stressed by war. There will no doubt be a JAG investigation later. Unless I'm mistaken, I think the Patriots themselves are programmed to detect and launch against enemy missiles much faster than any human response can, it could have been a glitch in the patriot firing mechanisms, but more likely to be someone hit the button to manual launch by mistake. Usually human error causes these things.
