Upgrade my graphics card?

I think it's best to start with my system specs, in case that's neccesary:

Windows XP (32-bits)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
3.01 GHz, 2,00 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT

I use R49 (R83 doesn't seem to want to go past the starting screen from Mario Kart Double Dash. I read somewhere that R49 worked 100% so I downloaded that one), with its default plugins (I use DX9 as graphics plugin. Works completely, no errors of not finding it thanks to the mentioned fix in that one stickied thread). I updated my video card (with the neccesary restart of course) and then tested, before posting this thread. OGL is no option for me, as that creates blackness when playing Mario Kart Double Dash.

The problem: when I try and run Mario Kart Double Dash (I haven't been able to test other games yet, but I doubt it it's game-specific), I get 2 consecutive errors. Here they are:

"Sorry, but it looks like your 3D accelerator is too old, or doesn't support features that Dolphin requires. Falling back to software vertex processing."

"Software VP failed too. Upgrade your graphics card."

How do I solve this problem? I doubt it my graphics card isn't good enough, because while my computer is not considered new anymore, it's not old either and lots more people would have this problem.

Your graphics card more is more than capable.

Sounds to me like a driver incompatibility or some hijinx that Dolphin doesn't like.

Your graphic card is MORE then well enough, it is, afaik, mostly depending on the CPU. I just overclocked (finally got it right...I think) and i got a major speed boost.

The problem you are having, at least i am pretty sure of it, is that you have both render to main window and full screen on simultaneously. At least when i do it (no more) i get the exact same error. So turn OFF either render to main window or full screen. I suggest the second one, so you can just go alt+enter.

Thanks, that was the problem indeed. It now works. Am I right that Dolphin lost compatibility with Mario Kart Double Dash? As even with the GX9 plugin I can't see the track when going in a race, while I could with 1.02 (but using 1.02 isn't really an option due to the speed).

SSBM works great indeed (just got the oppurtunity to borrow it). 25 fps at me with 4 players, 33 fps with 2 players (haven't tried with 2 AI's though), so around the 30 fps which is perfect. Just too bad that the music quits after one second, but that's not important.

In menu screens it goes too fast though (hard to select things), at 46 - 47 FPS. But that's all okay with me, as long as it's playable at a decent speed, which it is.
