What's new

Updating always leaves doubts.

OK, my small PC upgrade is done but 2 things haunt me while i navigate the myriad of configurations and support programs.

1. The mobo got hte Hypertransport thingie, the upstream comes set for 16 bit and the down for 8 ones, i putted them both for 16 (WX´s thougt - the more the merrier),
is it good?

2. The ATI tray tools allow me to
"Disable DMA copy" and "Disable block Write" the default is DMA on and block off, i took both off. (WX´s thought - disable features is bad), was it right

Mucking with configurations is usually a hit or miss affair really... if it works then go for it, do extensive testing etc.

I'm not sure about the first but I have an idea of the second one, Why did you disable them? Usually if you disable features problems arise, like if I disabled Fast Write changing the brightness on far cry would be impossible without a hard lock. Personally i've never heard of someone disabling these two things before.

no, dude, marking it disables the features, so i left it unmarked thus enabling the features.

Ah, sorry... my mistake... personally i'd leave those two alone unless theres really a concrete benefit for mucking with em! ATI drivers usually are pretty stable and pick the best settings most of the time.

your insights serve you well.
Kotor 2, at the end of the Mandalorian Wars, Revan crushed the mandalorians at malachor V.
You own an ATI board, have you ever used Ati tray tools?

I am using 1.0.3.720 and it is very nice because i can set my games and my OC through it and i had to use because of the "black roads" problem on GTA san andreas.

I dont like to mess too much with overclocking i wouldnt like to fry my CPU or my GFX card as im not too experienced with hardware.

Besides getting 43FPS at Doom 3 1024x768 High Detail is good enough for me.

That remembers me once i almost fried my old Athlon XP 1700+ cuz i didnt install the heatsink properly >.< when i opened the bios and saw the 70 ºC temperature and going up i got friggin scared. lol

your vid card have some oomp under the hood baby, i do not have this kind of FPS (timedemo demo1 usecache).
it goes 22,8 on 1024
33 on 800
40,7 on 640
high quality, AA and AF off

Yeah comparing the Video Cards mine is a 9800 Pro and yours is a GeCube 9600 Pro and remember GeCube have lower clocks your problem with Doom 3 is your GFX Card cuz your memory and cpu is just fine also Doom 3 depends on the GFX card more than anything else.

Anyway my gfx card is crap compared to the newer X800, GF6800 and worse if you compare it to a GF7800.

The FPS i gave was under timedemo demo1 usecache as well at 800x600 i get 49FPS of course with AF and AA off.

your cpu is your bottleneck, i guess it will fare just fine because games tend to be backwards compatible. Not all ppl get GeF 7800.
