Tutorial: How to run SSBM at playable speeds with Dolphin 1.03.2 x64

Well hello guys, I've found a way to make SSBM playable and I just wanted to share the thing until a frame limiter is integrated into Dolphin :satisfied

First of all my system specs (you'll need to adjust the settings to your machine):

Vista Ultimate 64
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ @2 Ghz
DDR2 1024 MB Kingston Value Ram
Winfast Geforce 7800GS (AGP)

As you can see my system isn't the fastest but for SSBM it works just dandy. Now for the part you've been expecting:

Step 1:

Get a hold of the newest Dolphin version

Step 2:

Acquire a SSBM iso (you'll have to find out how to do that by yourself)

Step 3:

Download CPUKiller3.

This is a handy tool that allows you to slow down both processors of your dualcore to up to 99% temporarily without doing any harm to your system.

Step 4:

Set the whole thing up. For that I have made some screenshots

Fire up CPUKiller3

and go to "Preset"->"New"->"General"

Here you can choose the name for a preset (doesn't matter in any way what you choose). I opted for Dolphin.

You'll have to select your Dolphin.exe via "Apptolaunch", CPUKiller3 will fill in the "WorkingDir" by itself.

Pretty straightforward so far, but now comes the magic! Speed is the option that tells CPUKiller3 by how many % to slow down your CPU. With my X2 3800+ 40% seems just about right. This is the point where you will have to experiment a bit to suit your CPU. (Hint: Faster CPUs need to be slowed down more, slower CPUs need to be slowed down less).

Ok, we're almost done. Switch to the "Advanced" tab and have a look at it.

Tick "Minimize CPUKiller window" so it won't get in the way when you start Dolphin, then tick "Close CPUKiller when done" to ensure that it closes itself (and stops slowing down your CPU) when you're done playing.

Save the whole thing and you will get a nice Dolphin symbol which allows you to start Dolphin under the conditions you just created. The one thing to remember is that you have to start Dolphin with the link in CPUKiller. To do that right click the link and choose the "Save a Link" option.

Now you can save the whole thing to your desktop and conveniently start the whole procedure with a simple double click. SHAZAAAM.

Hope this helped you - enjoy SSBM

PS: CPUKiller3 comes as an evaluation version that only allows you to run it for 20 minutes, then you'll have to start it up to get another 20 minutes out of it. If you want to be left alone by that either buy the thing or get a serial some other way ;)

I don't know... but something I don't get..
You use a software toll take snapshot of windows, when you can simply use the perfectly working Snipping Tool that Windows Vista comes with.

Check it out, (look in the start menu), you can take screen shit with.without border of an aera, freeform area, a windows, fullscreen, or even an object! And it's free!

Ah well I just wanted to try out the program and I added the screenies for clarification's sake anyways. I think they get the point across well enough, don't they ? ;O
