Firstly, this is not a rom request.

I'd like to point out an important factor in copyright law.

When you purchase something copyable, there's always some kind of warning, and also (depending on the medium), a document you must sign (electronically, of course) that essentially makes YOU responsible for anything that you do with that program that is against the law. Meaning, if YOU purchased the program, and YOU put it up on some file-sharing program, then YOU are responsible for the hoardes of people who download it. Not them.

Such is the case with movies on TV. The movie companies know that people have VCRs and can record movies. They know that by showing the movie on TV they are losing money. But they show it anyway. By showing that movie, they are making it available to you for copying. Because someone has made it available for copying, you are not held responsible for the copy.

In the same way, because someone has made their ROMs available to you to download, DOWNLOADING them cannot be illegal, because COPYRIGHT LAW STATES that the person who COPIES it is held responsible.

When they catch a drug dealer, they don't proceed to hunt down every single person who bought drugs from him... so why do they hunt down every single poor shmuck who downloaded a song from a song dealer? Hmm...

This has all been discussed before (check the similar threads at the bottom of the page for examples).

The crux is, we do not allow the requests, or discussions on whereabouts to obtain them/rip them etc - end of story :) It's just something that has been decided upon by this site as something that is not to be discussed etc.

When they catch a drug dealer, they don't proceed to hunt down every single person who bought drugs from him

In that example though, if you bought drugs from a dealer and were subsequently caught you could be done for possession.

so why do they hunt down every single poor shmuck who downloaded a song from a song dealer?

They tend to go after the people who do the uploading rather than the downloading.

Don't start a discussion if all your facts are wrong...

wrong

wrong... Paramount sold NBC the tv rights to Titanic for $30 million.

When they catch a drug dealer, they don't proceed to hunt down every single person who bought drugs from him...
misleading... if they can prove possession they will.

First of all, I recently found out that apparently discussion of obtaining ROMs in ANY way, including ripping roms from cartridges that you own, is a no-no. Hmm. How useless.

Secondly, it's all a moot point anyway because the fact of the matter was if they really wanted to shut down ROM stuff, they'd shut down the emulators. Everyone knows emulators are used 99.99% of the time for ripped commercial games. Why make such a big deal about the THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of ROMs being distributed, when you could shut the whole project down by killing the emulators? They could make a valid legal point in the facilitation of illegal activites, saying that these emulators promote the illegal copying of ROMs.

That pretty much wraps it up for me. I just followed the procedure for renaming and fixing n64 roms, and said procedure killed them all except one, destroying several hundred hours of downloading. EMULATION SUCKS because you can't get ROMs, the emulators don't work worth beans and everyone's paranoid out their ass about it.

Don't bother replying, I've left for good. What a useless forum.

Honestly you should be able to easily formulate a google search (using commands to specifically filter out crap) quite easily.

Emulators are not illegal, the roms are. The bottom line is, they couldn't get emulation outlawed (at the present time) because it is deemed legal.

Goodbye btw, been nice knowing such a whining little loser ;)

ROFLMAO @ this

That's his website, he's a Christian games maker (nothing wrong with that) except by wishing to find illegal (his words) roms, he's kinda flouting the 'I shalt not steal' commandment :p
