I'd be interested to try the wired version since I've heard little bad about it, but I had the Logitech Cordless Wingman Rumblepad (or whatever the hell its called) and it flat sucked. The analog sticks had basically no resistance .. the just flopped around, making a stationary hold difficult to index. Also, a couple of the action buttons started to stick on me VERY early on ... like after a few weeks. The springs under the action buttons were way to stiff and wayyyyy too tall. Rapid fire wasn't good.
I have two pads hooked up to the PC right now. An N64 controller on an adaptoid, which I use for just about everything and haven't had any trouble getting to rumble (even in Nebula), and a PSX Dual Shock through a different USB adaptor for ePSXe. THe PSX controller doesn't rumble unfortunately, but the USB adapter was only $10 at Radio Shack and works flawlessly, with the exception of no rumble drivers. I only use it for ePSXe so no biggie.
I like the N64 controller for several reasons ... 1) short, quick reset on the action buttons for speed with control, 2)plenty of buttons and well placed, 3) I like the analog stick on this thing, 4) it has a big beautiful + shaped D-pad which is needed for old 2d emulation and arcade. I hate the round type D-pads on so many PC gamepads. I used to have a Microsoft Sidewinder and thought it was pretty cool until I tried it with ZSNES.
Its just me but I think the N64 controller w/ adaptoid is the best and last great gamepad for console emulation. You can get a Gamecube controller USB adapter now but I wouldn't want it. Nintendo has (rightly) put the analog stick as the main control now and put the + shaped d-pad in secondary role below. It's perfect for the Gamecube and I think its the best console controller ever made, but for the systems that came before the N64 controller is a better package.
