Sync game to audio... what's bad about it???

In the help file of PJ64 it reads that "Sync game to audio" can make problems.

With my old sound card (VIA Onboard chip), it is true. But now, with my Creative Sound Blaster Audigy, it is the opposite. All games have much better sound with sound synchronisation... there's just one exception (I have about 15 roms): Conker's Bad Fur Day (USA Version).

So why isn't it recommendable to use this option. Or if it is because of my new sound card, why doesn't anybody in the help file tell that "Sync game to audio" can make problems just with some sound cards (probably with not good one's)? Or do I experience sth. special with my PC.

Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon XP 1800+
768 MB SD-RAM 133
GeForce 2 Pro 64 MB DDR
Sound Blaster Audigy
Mainboard with VIA KT266 chipset (supports SD and DDR RAM)
Newest detonator (I do not know the number)
DirectX 8.2 (Special version... an official version which I found on a site and it is not a beta... absolutely not... unfortunately I do not know where to find the English version; however it was the same DX8.1b)

Project 64 1.5
Jabo D3D 1.5 (Window: 800x600; FS: 800x600x32 Triple buffer)
Jabo DSound 1.5
Jabo DInput 1.5

Mmmmm....Beeeeerrrr
The only issues I think is that it can make the game slower that it should be (try tony hawk for example and use sync game to audio) or it could just leave you with a blank screen (try turok series to see what i mean) Other that that, the sync game to audio option works great.

The problem is that you are saying "i want to let this plugin stall the core any time it feels like it" or in other words "audio is more important than all the rest of the system". It's a hacky solution to a nasty problem (imprecise timing). It's philosophicaly bad, if you will; I believe a plugin should not be given this much power. The emulator running is like a raging army of parts, and a good army has one leader. However, it's simple and does what it does well, so user has option.

I know... the game will be slowed down to the speed of the sound but it is the opposite... I have a dolby digital system at my room with an integrated dolby pro logic II adapter... if the graphics have minor problems, I do not recognize (just somtimes). But if the sound is crappy the I hear it from all directions... and I would not buy a high-end sound card if I do not give sound a high priority. This is why I bought e.g. Power DVD 4 Deluxe (with integrated DTS support)...

If the sound of a game for example is bad (but the graphics superb), it would be a reason for me not to buy it. Good sound is important for me...

There's just one disadvantage in "Sync game...". F4 isn't working anymore... I would like to have a special key for enabling it and disabling it...

I normally use:
"Sync game to Audio": ON
"Limit FPS": OFF

The sound limits it itself.

?????????????????????????
You can't...
Either don't use sync audio and use the F4-key, or don't. It's the only options. I don't seriously think there will be pj 1.6.

Hmm, v1.6 IS out as u no doubt heard by now and it didn't do the trick. I'm getting some minor 'crackling' which is heard as often as drops from a leaky faucet hit the bottom of a sink. This is for every game. It's noticeable and not too bad at all, but still annoying. I turned on Sync Audio To Game which solves that problem, but now F4 to Limit fps doesn't work anymore (no more fast forwarding :( ).

I'm currently using Jabo's Direct Sound 1.6. Also Jabo's 1.6 Graphics plugin and Adaptoid. Tried Zilmar's Audio Plugin, but same crackling in the audio persisted. It's nearly 3 years later... Can some1 suggest any new solutions so I (ergo we) can have great sound and the ability to fast forward? This is rather frustrating as i don't remember having this crackling a year ago on my same PC using P64 as well (altho i never tried to pressing f4, so there's a chance "sync game..." may hav e been enabled by default)

My system specs:
winXP Pro SP2, P4 3GHz, 1.5GB RAM
128MB Radeon 9800 Pro, Sound Blaster Live 5.1

Pretends to make sense
K, next time, don't bump a 3 year old thread, just make a new one. You could try getting Azimers plugin 0.56 WIP2 and enabling Send audio lists to audio plugin in the RSP config.

This was relevant to the topic though. So is the preference to let old topics die regardless? I figured it's better (at least with online forums in general) to continue that topic rather than create extra ones.

As for Azimers plugin, I tried that with Zelda OoT. From my 2 minute test, so far it seems to be working. During game play, no crackling at all. However, The audio (music esp.) seems to be somewhat inaccurate from my observations. I'll have to do more listening to see if I'm mistakened. Otherwise, I can delimit fps and get a range of 130 to 180 fps.

Your logic is sound. The problem is that people don't look at the dates, which means that some may respond to the original (very old, in this case) post.

In regards to your issue, when audio sync is enabled, the audio essentially becomes the throttle, which is why disabling the emulator's throttle (F4) has no effect.

Could be. Audio sync used to be a global option (can't remember in which version it changed). You may have had it enabled and not realized it.
