Strange problems with Mario Golf...

When I'm at the shoot the ball screen (ya know, the one where you swing at the ball :whistling) I get major slowdown and the sound sounds choppy (about 20-25 fps). However, when I rotate the character around, the FPS jumps up to what it should be (59-60). It's only when I'm standing still that I get the FPS lag, so it's definatly not a hardware problem. Does anyone else have similar problems, or could this just be a bad rom?

Specs:

P4 2.4 GHz/800MHz FSB
1024 MB RAM
GeForce FX 5200
Windows XP Home

edit: forgot to put my vid card on the specs list

It's a framebuffer effect. No PC hardware could really cope at this point using Jabo's implementation of the framebuffer. You can make the effect faster by either using low resolution updates for the framebuffer or turning the frambuffer completely (disable self-rendered textures) This however makes the game look worse.
