I'm sure everyone knows this already, but there you go. I was a bit ticked off when I read this:

and then read at The Digital Bits that these would be the so called "special editions," not the theatrical releases. Damn shame I say. Oh well, like Indiana Jones I'll be happy to finally have them on DVD.

Well actually your kinda right and kinda wrong, I think these will be programmed DVD's to allow you to turn off the deleted scenes. Only DVD's can do this. Basically it will have the deleted scenes as seperate tracks and only play those tracks if you turn on the option in the DVD menu. There are movies that have this already. I think the Back to the Future Trilogy allows this. So basically its both versions in one DVD. Thats basically the only real difference between the special edition and the normal edition. Well that and the first two were remastered with THX which Lucas didnt invent until Episode VI. But then again, who wouldnt want that? And finally there was commentary on the Special edition if I remember right but on a dvd you can skip that.

sorry to say but you be way off, star wars will not have such a feature.. back to the future allows no such thing, terminator 2 on the other hand does, the technology is not new, but it is very doubt ful it will be used.

the whole reason they are going to release the special editions is because lucas was not happy witht he originals. and on many occasions it has been stated that he will not release the original in any shape or form.

afaik, the differences are quite big in the speical effects and a few scenes are changed around (something about someone shooting somone first, but i think this one is going to be changed again, i really dont know about this)

personally i believe it should be kept as it was but just like ET, with the guns changing to walkie talkies, the directors are not 100% satisfied so they do some fiddling, and to change back and admit they were wrong, is a big thing which i doubt we will see happen.

anywya la ta te la ta ta, im off to see David Strassman

Macca = correct

Sadly, too few DVDs feature seamless-branching in my opinion. I always like the option of watching a theatrical cut, particularly when so many "special editions" and "director's cuts" pale in comparison to the originals.

I think Lucas is just doing it now because if he waits till after Episode III, people will be so pissed off at how poor the Prequels were that nobody will buy the originals on DVD. ;)

Bah, I didnt think the Prequels were that bad. Could have been worse. They could have decided to do Episode VII with new actors for all the characters :p
