Try updating your sound card drivers. I haven't used Chankast for a while so I've forgotten if there's any other sound-related options in it that can be changed - if there are, try altering them and seeing if there's any difference.

Failing that, *rolls out that often-repeated-but-oh-so-true textbook answer* you'll probably just have to wait for the next version of Chankast.

Or perhaps buy (or borrow, maybe) a different soundcard - SB Live! 5.1 cards are pretty good and quite cheap now, should be £30 or less in most places. I have one in my PC upstairs which runs Chankast - problem is, I've never played Shenmue on it, only my rip of Sonic Adventure. All the music in that plays fine with only the odd click or pop every so often.

Hey guys, you're going about it all wrong, the problem is not your sound card, the emulator is the problem, I'm having this problem too.

i'm not quiet sure if the emulater is the problem caus ppl on http://www.ngemu.com have posted reviews about shenmue and it worked perfect. so is has to be an other problem i guess...

well then... I think they're righ, the people on ngemu didn't mention the sound problem with shemue 1 or 2. I'll wait the new chanka come out and see if sound is fine.

No it is an issue with Chankast. I think that it is listed as one of the compatibilty issues in the compatibilty list and there have been numerous posts about it. Read the compatibilty list there is issues that Chankast has with Shenmue. The other being locking up on disc 3.

Hello everybody,

first I want to say I'm happy someone does the hard work to develop an emulator like Chankast, they give me the chance to play and enjoy Shenmue.

Ok, things were not easy at the beginning, but finally everything seems to work quite good. Only the sound loops at the beginning. This is very sad, because the soundtrack of the game is very beautiful.

My question is: is there any chance to fix this problem manually? How are the sounds routed by the emulator, how are they supposed to be triggered? Where could be the mistake?

I found out (from a file on the game-cd in the sound-directory) that there must be a soundcard-driver called "AICAsoundDrv990916/Ver1.74a". However, when googeling, nothing was the result. Does anyone have an idea? Should this driver first be installed?

The bets thing would be a sound- or an audio-plugin for chankast to have the possibility to change some settings or adjust the sound-features.
