Sound lag

The default sound plugin by Jabo gives me a lagged sound output. While Azimer's 0.4 B2 plugin does give me syncronized sound output, the plug-in is not as stable as Jabo's. I have tried various settings but they did not help. Any suggestions?

My other plugins are the default ones.
P4 2.4 @ 2.7
512 MB RD-RAM
Geforce Ti 4200 (Dets 41.80)
SB Audigy 1 (323 Drivers)
Windows XP Pro SP1
DirectX 9

It looks like PJ64 hates XP! Almost all problems on PJ64 are win XP problems.

On topic again:

Maybe you can try azimer's audio 0.30. It's more stable. You can also enable/disable the RSP plugin and see the difference.

PJ64 used to work flawlessly with my previous drivers (Dets. 41.09 and Audigy 283 + DirectX 8.2) but updates to the latest ones seem to cause a little lag problem which I never encounter in any other emulator or game. I think an updated sound plug-in will solve this, especially written for DirectSound 8.

I will try the 0.30 version of the Azimer's audio plug-in and see what happens...

I have tried every sound plugin available and messed with their settings but I cannot get the sound working properly. Jabo's DirectSound Plugin gives a superb output quality, no clicks or pops but the sound lags about 0.5-1 seconds. Azimer's plugins do not have this problem but the sound quality and compatibility is fairly low.

I absolutely have no problems with other emulators; MAME, WinUAE, Gens, ePSXe and Zinc. I am using DirectX 9 with the new Audigy drivers and Jabo's plugin unfortunately doesn't support them properly :(

Anyone has a similar problem or a system with a similar setup?

Happy New Year everyone!!! Anyway to the point of no spam, you guys have better computers... I only have a P4 1.8 with a Geforce 3 and I get no sound lag at all... try the default settings... maybe "sync game to audio" if you're doing Zelda... I don't know... long time ago I said that Jabo's 1.5 audio should be put to sleep 'cause it's perfect (gfx are close)... maybe update your drivers or something...

Happy new year too :)

Jolly, this is not related to the speed or power of my computer. I guess it is a fault of the sound plugin, not supporting DX9 or the latest Audigy drivers but I am asking others to confirm this.

If something works for you, that doesnt mean that it is perfect and will work for everyone. Some people cannot get a good sound output from WinUAE, lots of stuttering and pops, but it works for me. It is nearly impossible for a program to be perfect, and we are talking about an emulator and its plugin ;)

I have tried everything and maybe I'll format and try a fresh Win XP installation to check it out. But first, I am asking for input from others...

I don't really see how you can be having a problem with the emu. My specs are lower than yours and I don't have a single problem with the emu. Have you tried sync game to audio. If that don't work try different plugins. If that still don't work you might wanna upgrade your drivers. It might also be your gfx card because it don't meet the requirements. You might wanna upgrade your gfx card to a geforce 4 which you can get on www.tigerdirect.com for under 100 bucks.

Yers it would seem a lot of ppl with lesser machines have it running 100% - hence the problem ;)

- sync game to audio has no positive affect
- as for plugins I'm in the same boat as fehmi...Azimer's HLE is the only way I can get sound with no lag but of course is very unstable. I could not get Azimer's LLE plugin work at all..
- I have the latest drivers for evrything
- There's no problem with the video/framerate
(GeForce 256 is recommended minumum req. hehe)
- evrythings beautiful except that loathsome 1sec delay :( *sniff

VrM, which drivers are you using for your SB Live? Can they be by any chance 323 or 383 (hacked Audigy 2 drivers ;) ? I guess these drivers (maybe together with DirectX 9 ?) causing this irritating sound lag...

BTW, I am using latest drivers for anything + DX9b

The latest SBLive 5.12.1.252
Yers it would be hardly surprising if it was the creative drivers causing trouble... wouldn't be the first time ;)
But on that note - all other progs/emus audio is fine.. (mame, vbadvance, winuae, zsnes etc)
and surely there are other users here that are using sblive/audigy/audigy2 with DX9.. anybody?

Hmm... I didnt have any problems with the previous 283 drivers but I guess it is a conflict between SB drivers (DX9?) and the sound plug-in.

There is a problem with Pete's OpenGL 2 Plugin for ePSXe which only happens on 2k and XP users with GF3&4 line-up cards (using 4x.xx dets).

problem is with the sound plugin and core... there are no problems with your config/drivers/hardware. afaik faster computers should have more lag. Check out the apollo message board, azimer is working on this problem by modifying the pj64 core.
