Some (general) questions...

Hi all! I'm a total noob when it comes to N64 emulation (although I've been playing 16-bit and prior era emu's for a while now), so please be gentle if these questions have obvious answers! :)

Since I happily discovered that I finally have a computer that is actually capable of emulating the N64 (I've tried in the past but never had any luck until recently), I've noticed that there's a LOT more tweaking needed to get these games working right. I've done some minor screwing around, changing video and audio plug-ins to try and get better results, but honestly I'm just going about it hit and miss.

Is there somewhere that you can find what video and audio plugins work best by rom title? In reading through these forums, obviously a lot of people spend a LOT of time tweaking their settings, and it'd be cool if there was a one stop place that's got that information for those of us that aren't as knowledgeable. Is there someplace that's got a basic tweaking tutorial for the different plugins (like a troubleshooting page for instance)? My tweaking has been pretty random, and if there's a tried and true method I'd be glad for the advice.

Also, what plugins are considered the best? I hear Rice Daedelus mentioned alot (which I dl'd and installed yesterday) and also Jabo, but as there are 50 million plugins out there I'm just curious what the community at large thinks is THE plugins to have. I just want to make sure I'm not wasting time trying to work with a plugin that's a POS...

Thanks for any help that you all can give. While I was more a child of the 8-bit generation, I still missed my N64!

Later!!

There aren't too many different plugin really. Most people here use mainly Jabo's graphics plugins or Rice's or Glide64 with a Glide wrapper (the latter seems very accurate).

As for sound, many people stick with Jabo's DirectSound, but Azimer's Audio seems to work woner with specific games.

As far as controller plugins go, the default Jabo's one should suffice, unless you are a feature freak like me. Then you'll probably like the N-Rage Input Plugin.

If you can name some games, we can help you out. Granted, there is no single graphics plugin and sound plugin combo that can emulate all games without a hitch.
