SOCIAL SECURITY:

(This is worth the read. It's short and to the point.)

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during

election years. Our Senators and Congressmen do not

pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not

collect from it. Social Security benefits were not

suitable for persons of their rare elevation in

society.

They felt they should have a special plan for

themselves. Many years ago they voted in their own

benefit plan. In more recent years, no congressperson

has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a

great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay

until they die, except it may increase from time to

time for cost of living adjustments.

For example, former Senator Byrd and Congressman

White and their wives may expect to draw

$7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred

Thousand), with their wives drawing $275,000.00

during the last years of their lives. This is

calculated on an average life span for each.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $00.00. Nada.

Zilch. This little perk they voted for themselves is

free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan.

The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly

from the General Funds--our tax dollars at work!

>From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I

pay (or have paid) into--every payday until we retire

(which amount is matched by our employer)--we can

expect to get an average $1,000 per month after

retirement. Or, in other words, we would have to

collect our average of $1,000. monthly benefits for

68 years and one (l) month to equal Bradley's

benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small

change were made. And that change would be to jerk

the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the

Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social

Security plan with the rest of us and then watch how

fast they would fix it.

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of

awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will

evolve.

How many people can YOU send this to?

Yeah, one small problem there, only about 1/4 the people on this forum live in the US.

america as a result of being an economical powerhouse, has become the single greatest waster of its own money than anyone else ever could be

I'd have to agree. The government here does tend to find new and interesting ways to spend it's citizens (my) tax money. Good examples would be like to do studies on toilets, or to make Bill Clinton the center of a long, costly investigation.

1: The statements are true (mostly) with my contribution I get 850 though a month ;)
2: Yeah a lot of people here are from other countries.. your point is?
3: What the heck has being an economic power house to do with wastefulness? Stop being so narrow minded. France isn't an economic power house and it wastes money. Just because you don't have as much money to act stupid with doesn't mean you won't act stupid with it.

I agree many governments are wasteful with funds. However it's a result of using the government to do things it shouldn't do to begin with. As a very famous person in the US said "It costs the government ten times what it costs for a company to do the same thing. Beuacracy has a high price." This was a response for a foreign aid agency that spent 90% of it's funds in the US (blink).

Instead of focusing in on individual countries you might not like and are easy to criticize, look at yourself. Anything that's wrong in a government in your country is a reflection on yourself, because you are part of the whole. It's very easy to point fingers at other people for problems, but as another famous person said "We have met the enemy, and it is us." Think carefully before you spout off.. because you might be talking about your own flaws you see in someone else. I think it's much more constructive to change yourself, instead of trying to change everyone around you, which.. never works.

All these rumours stem from the fact that the way the govt. is set up, congress men/women decide when to give themselves a raise in pay and how much. This IS a true statement, however it doesn't mean that they can just give themselves a 2 million dollar raise, they do have limits set on what they can do with it.
