serious video problem

i've been using project64 for over a year now on various computers and i love it, i've been running it on my 2500+ ati radeon 9600 256mb ddr system for a few months, and suddenly, out of nowhere, the program no longer loads because of a video problem (a day after i get another 150 roms, just perfect hey!)

when i use the default plugin (jabos), it says that it can't initialize my HAL device, I've tried various plugins but they just either crash project64 or cause it to hang while trying to load a rom. one plugin says that it can't initialize directx 8.

i followed the very helpful faq and did just about everything that it said, but that didn't work, so i tried reinstalling it without the service pack, and it worked, well sort of. it runs fine once, but the error comes back when the program is reloaded. so i reinstalled it again, but this time with the service pack installed, and i just get the same error.

the only option left is to reinstall windows, and i really don't want to do that unless i absolutely have to, because I don't trust the windows installer's repair option, and i don't want to format 180gb worth of data.

PLEASE HELP! i now have about 500 roms waiting to be played. any help would be great

Delete the PJ64 reg key, then run it while you're in 16-bit. And don't forget to set PJ64 to run in 16-bit as well.

pj64 worked for three years. I then install a Redeon 9200 and it stops working (keep getting the HAL problem).

There´s a modification in Catalyst.Since this modification,Jabo doesn´t work anymore.
Use Differents plug-in: recomend Rice Video plug-in (the latest)

Noob has an answer!

Hi, just registered, love the site and everything that goes with it. I saw some people in the forum having problems with Direct3d HAL, I have a simple solution. It has happened to me a couple of time's and all I have to do is log completely off windows, then log right back on. Works everytime.
Hope this helps.
