There have been rumors of Rare ending its Nintendo-exclusive relationship, and talk of the same issue here in this thread.

Now The Register puts up this story. Sad times these are.:plain:

may I just point out that instead of late games for the GC it will be late games for the X-Box

I've always consider Rare like Tecmo is to SEGA, ie a poor copy

X-Box games have lagged because it wants the PS2's market and there is no way it's grabbing that market without Enix and Square, and the help of EA and to a lesser degree capcom and konami, Rare doesn't figure into the equation for selling consoles, Microsoft can only laud it up because everyone always calls them "loyal Nintendo supporters" which is obviously why a lot of their members go on to develop for the PS2 (see zoonami)

rare doesn't figure outside of the hardcore market and they couldn't keep the DC alive ;)

I was long expecting this...
I said in my post of "GBA news and pics again" that Rare was leaving Nintendo... Now, there comes the fourth or fifth source that tells about Microsoft's buy for 200 millions of dollars or more.
One of those sources is IGN, and I suppose that you'll agree with it as a reliable source

Exactly the point anyway. We got an entire six games from Rare, and out of that six, one was Goldeneye (2nd Greatest Thing Ever), one was Perfect Dark (much less good aside from the multiplayer botfest), two were inferior and stupidly easy Mario 64 clones, Conker was fairly funny but very shortlived... and the less said about DKR the better. All also very late.

Wow... never mind the fact that Rare have denied it time and time again and that this all sprung up from that one silly xmas postcard. If you `predicted` it it *must* be true! Like how they were `bought` by Acclaim at one point? Or how Microsoft were in talks to buy Nintendo at one point... and Sega... and EA... (all true, Nintendo simply stopped talking when they realised Microsoft were serious - cue much laughter on the part of Yamauchi-san no doubt. Sega gave it a `no way`, and EA, well, they`re EA. They make enough cash as it is)
If only I could travel back in time and burn that card before it was ever sent out, and put an end to it before the rumor started.

Okay. I`ve managed to stop for a minute, so I`ll just mention THAT Luigi`s Mansion/N64 quote, the "no, honestly, Nintendo are making TWO Zelda`s and one will have the S2k graphics we promise" and "Directors cut with music CD`s etc" fiascos - both simple message-board origin rumours which I believe they once pitched as news. I could really throw in some more but I think derisive laugher is more appropriate.

Heh, I just love it when fanboys start dissing companies that "betray" them... I`m not gonna comment on the IGN reviewers decision, because I haven`t played LM and I`m not a member at IGN`s boards, but lets just say that BK and BT are far, far superiour to Mario64 any day of the week.

Thridly, IGN I care not.
And finally... Mario 64, still largely hailed as best 3d platformer (if not best game) EVER. BK and BT, largely gone and forgotten. Thank you, thank you, for making that so very easy.

Mario64? That game sucks!
Even SMW was better IMO.
Although, it's not 3d...but almost all 3d games suck IMO.

yeah the Banjo games sucked compared to Mario64, hard but true, if you're going to platform at least do it well like Jak and Dexter, but platforming in itself is more at home in 2D games

you're spamming is nothing compared to my skillz

but anyway, Rare is (like Tecmo is to SEGA) a poor copy of Nintendo, and just like Tecmo they have their fans, but they're not as good as the original.

Rare is for me one of the greatest videogame companies ever.
Games like Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, Conker's BDF, Donkey Kong 64, Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3, Diddy Kong Racing, and more have been my favourites all along.
