The RAM cart is a memory extension used by some games to produce better animation (amongst other things). The Backup Cartridge is used for game saves.

Enable "Hook Backup Library" under the Program 3 tab and you will have all of the save possibilities AND the RAMcart hooked up too (and infinite space for savegames too).

f12 WAS the fullscreen/window change, but it got fixed to alt+enter a while ago.

Can you link to that ssf faq?

When I go into full screen mode (which is most of the time for SSF), the top and bottom parts of the screen aren't black, as they should be. Instead, I tend to see some of my desktop, etc. Does this happen to everyone else, too? Any way to remedy?

that happens a few times to me, I guess it's because SSF doesn't draw anything on those parts (as the resolution used is 640x480 but the Saturn screen only takes 640x448) so whatever video is stuck in your vidcard will get put there. press f5 twice to force a screen refresh by enabling then disabling scanlines, that will get rid of them.

I know this is somewhat outdated (what with the new SSF out), but I'd just like to say, "Searching Works!" I would have started a new thread, but luckly I found this one. Thanks for the info here. I'm no longer stuck to saving on the internal memory (I ran out twice already). I just figured it would be nice to give thanks (and notice for saving) where it's due. Mouser X over and out.
