Hello and welcome to explaining pain in the ass errors, I'll be your host razon here to explain this annoyance.

To start off Pc Specs..
Windows XP SP2
Pent 4 3.2ghz
1GB Ram
SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio [E480]
ATI RADEON X600 PRO 256MB
DirectX Version 9.0c

First off was I had gotten my new pc in 2005 january.
Then I played online a few times with project 64k.
Next was I come back after around 5 months and to my suprise, 2 freakin errors show up one after the other when I start pj64k up.
e1.gif
e2.gif

Then the program starts after that but of course it can't run any games let alone games online, what happends when a game trys to get started? The 2 errors popup and then pj64k crashes. Also none of the older project 64's work, only 1.6 does now.

So I went on to search the forum for ways to fix it...

USER1: switch to 16 bit mode.
Fail - doesn't fix it at all

USER2: Install new video drivers.
Fail - doesn't fix it at all

USER3: Crappy video card then?
ATI RADEON X600 PRO 256MB - it worked before so its not like the video card can't handle it

USER4: How about the windows XP Hotfixes, uninstall the ones that I post.
Fail - doesn't exist

USER4 AGAIN: Then uninstall all the hotfixes and narrow it down to the trouble maker.
Fail - it didn't help, was just a waste of time un/re-installing them

USER5: Well different video plugins..
Fail - doesn't fix it at all

USER6: Then try it on another pc.
Fail - didn't work on my laptop that I bought in july with the same video card

USER7: Go into into the 3D display options and set the thing for 32 bit there..
Fail - 32bit setting didn't exist

USER8: Try reinstalling project64k and erase the stuff for it in the registry.
Fail - doesn't fix it at all

USER9: Try right clicking and select the compatibility to run for win98 or 2000 or any of them for that matter.
Fail - doesn't fix it at all

USER10: Buy a new video card then.
Fail - I won't do that since it worked good before with this current one and only this program has the problem

USER11: Install/Reinstall directx 9.0c. or an older version.
Fail - you can't install an older version on xp let alone reinstall the current version without a restore, and with around 100-200 programs installed thats a major no

USER12: I give up, just do a restore/format.
Fail - hell no!

So searching was of no use whatsoever.
Now is your chance to become USER12 or higher.. Will you post something to help me out or not post at all?
No posting useless crap that was already mentioned!

At your service, dood!
Here is project64's support page on said issue:
http://www.pj64.net/main/content/view/412/31/

"Also none of the older project 64's work, only 1.6 does now." - this was a bug in the older versions of the video plugin, its Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5 plugin that is causing this bug then by reading your post, not Project64 1.5 or 1.6;

Generally posting in an angry manner like you have above will get you no-where, i'll let you away with it this time.

hi there Razon! sounds like you're having problems similar to what i had, and the solution was oh so simple! i am not sure what you mean by your user1: switch to 16bit mode, but if it is not the same as my theory then try it!

well first off let's start afresh. go to "my computer" and then "add or remove programs". go to project64, and uninstall. when that's done, go to program files and send the pj64 folder to the recycle bin, and delete it. make sure that there are no pj64 icons left anywhere so it has been completely removed (check the start menu etc.) right it is up to you if you want to restart, i didn't but if you wanna go ahead!

ok now download project64 again, but don't install it yet! and just to be on the safe side, just get your directx updated to the newest one.

once that has done, check everything with your graphics is ok. go to "run" from your start menu, and type in dxdiag. go to display and click on both tabs "test directdraw" and "testdirect3d". and click yes on both in turn. the tests should then take place, showing you different things to make sure it is working ok. in my case i had about 3 tests for one showing a black and white rectangles, and a bouncing cube for the first tab, and a spinning cube with directx logo on for the other. hopefully, after each test, it should work fine and have clicked "yes" to seeing everything that has been shown to you. once you have done that, and hopefully everything is fine, close dxdiag. (make sure that all 3 directx features on the left are enabled).

right now go to "my computer" and "change a setting" (or my control panel). click on "appearance and themes" and then "display". go to the settings tab, and under color quality, select the lowest one. in my case the lowest is, medium 16bit.

now reinstall project64, and hopefully it should be working again! also if you have an antivirus program, have it closed or snoozing temporarily while you test it. when the program is working fine it slows pj64 down. so when i use it i put my anti virus in snooze mode.

i had so many error messages and no matter what i tried i still couldn't get it working, and it was all because my colour quality was adjusted to 32bit when i used one of my system restore cds, and installed an advanced graphics thing. all i had to do was change it back to it's original setting 16bit and it is fine. now i can play it again just like before.

i hope this helps you, but if as i said that is what you have tried already and that is what you meant in your user1 sentence, then sorry i couldn't help you. but there is no harm in trying my theory is there? ;)

If the problem still occurs after reinstalling Project64, then it's probably reformat and reinstall time. Sorry. :yucky: :(

Just an idea, not a fix, does PJ64 run in Safe Mode?

And, if it does, try disabling ANYTHING in your hardware properties that could possibly interefe with your graphics card.

EDIT: Hell do the GFX card idea anyway.

EDIT: I know this sounds REALLY stupid, but have you modified the slightest thing, changed it back, clicked Apply, and tried it out? I know when first using new drivers it goes kinda funky until I go into the settings. Even without modifying anything, it worked :p
