Project 64 Problems with D3D

I can't get pj64 to work. It says "D3D failed to initialize your HAL device make sure you have a properly configured 3D graphics card compatible with Direct3D 6.0". And then it says "The default or selected video plugin is missing or invalid. Check that you have at least one compatible plugin file in your plugin folder". Also when I try to open a game, it says "plugins are not successfully initialized." Could someone please help me?? My specs are

AMD Athlon XP 1900+
Radeon ATI 64MB 9000 PRO
256MB DDR RAM

I tried different drivers and it didn't work. 1964 emu works for me though. I don't understand why it wouldn't work. Can someone help me out?

Try one of the following:

1) Set your display to 16bit
2) Install newer drivers (they got fixed for me that way)

Just suggestions.
