Project 64 better than the real thing!

I have been using project 64 for well over 4 years now. But yesterday for the first time i wanted to do a test. After playing perfect dark on project 64 i decided to give it a go on my nintendo 64. ?To my disbelief the graphics looked murky and fuzzy (and yes i have the expansion pack installed). I was sure they were clearer on project 64. So i loaded up perfect dark on my pc (using project 64) and the difference was astounding. Project 64 displayed the game as clear as day, no fuzzynes no murkyness. Also it played a lot smoother than on the nintendo 64. I was taken aback. It just shows you what a brilliant team of coders can do when they put there minds to it! Well done pj64!

Playing on a TV isn't the same as playing it on a computer monitor. TVs have and inferior picture quality unless you are using something like a HD-TV. Sure, Jabo's and Co. could probably simulate a "TV effect", but I don't think a lot of people would want that.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

But he said it plays a lot smoother, too. And either way, PJ64 has options such as kinda "blurring" pixeled images. I played MK64 on the emulator and it went smoother than it ever did on the n64 (except for the menus... they're a bit meh)

Am I the only one that thinks the quality on the actual console is better than on the emulator? Especially the "blurry" effect is a real nice touch that the emulator don't have last time I looked.

Yes you are ;) - no i'm sure there are others, I won't lie - I certainly prefer the high-res look of the emulator over the really low-res n64 picture on the tv. however, the real n64 has effects that haven't been emulated yet (properly) like Goldeneye Sky so the real n64 still has some value in this world.

The high-res look makes it look even more sharp and well... edgy... than on the real n64. Which is a bad thing... I think.

The blurriness was a hardware limitation of the N64 rather than a feature, and was widely critised during the N64's life.

The Nintendo 64's native resolution is 320x240, the picture displayed on screen is interlaced to make up for this lower resolution.

All TVs show interlaced unless it is a progressive TV. Resolution has nothing to do with interlaced.

I don't see how it makes any difference whether you prefer one way or the other, if i'm playing Zelda OOT on monitor or on TV with my real n64 i've completed the game using both methods and I can say I enjoyed both pretty much equally.

Nothing beats the joy of playing your n64 the first time, but since my n64 is up the attic and half-dead the emulator is pretty nice way to replay all my old favourites.
