ok, my friend just got an athlon xp 1800 1.53ghz processor, when he starts his comp up the computer bios tells him the name of his processor is an athlon 4 at like 1.1ghz, Wtf is that!? and it won't work properly either because when we try to boot off the cd to install winxp it just does not detect the cd, and the moniter messes up when restarted, i experienced the same probs with mine, and fixed it through picking the right model number like 1600 1800, but i can't find that option in the bios of his comp! anyone know what im talking about or help me in anyway?

Well, let's put my PC shop Tech support knowledge to work here:

Seems you got your CPU clock stuck at 100Mhz. The ratio for a Athlon XP 1800+ is 11.5.

So 11.5 x 100 = 1150Mhz = 1.15Ghz.

There *should* be a jumper on your mainboard wich switches the CPU clock between 100 and 133Mhz. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not talking about RAM clock. You can have your RAM run at 133Mhz already but your CPU at 100Mhz. Anyhoo, switch the jumper to 133Mhz (check the manual) and you'll see:

11.5 x 133 = 1529.5Mhz = 1.53Ghz.

You might need to upgrade your BIOS in order for it to detect the CPU as an AthlonXP. I've seen many mainboards simply ignoring it or showing it as 'Athlon 4 MP'.

Anyhoo, the 100/133Mhz is definately your problem. I suggest switching your mainboard to have a 133Mhz CPU clock and upgrade your BIOS.

your talking about the FSB clock, under your bios you may need to change the chip from the 100 X 11.5 that Redah was talking about to 133 X 11.5. If your motherboard supports the XP chip then it is only a BIOS operation, nothing to do with jumpers.

This option should be under advanced settings, yuo should see something like

Athlon 11.5 X 100

Just change that and all should be well, and unless you know what ur doing don't touch the power setting buttons :D
