Hey, I'm REALLY in need of help because I can't install my new printer. I tried installing it but I recieved an error stating that my spooler had stopped. I looked all over the internet to find out what this was, so I went to my administrative tools in the control panel and opened up Services. I found printer spoler listed, but when I tried to hit start I got an error message saying

"Could not start the Printer Spooler service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start".

Please, if you know what I can do, PLEASE help ASAP. Thank you.

print spooler depends on remote procedure call. to find the dependencies for a service right click the service and click properties, then dependencies.

ok right click my computer icon then click manage, click the plus sign next to services and applications, clcik services, scroll down the list until you see remote procedure call(RPC) , if you right click it you should be able to start it then clcik properties and under startup type click automatic. if you cant do this then it could be that you have a worm on your computer.

alternatively you can type services.msc in the run box and it will take you to the serviceswindow as well.

dude, it's already under automatic. I've asked for help in a million forums and nobody's helping me. Thanks for trying, but RPC doesn't appear to be the problem.

rpc is the only dependancy for print spooler. does it also say started in the services window. if you have your printer installed already then you can go to printers and faxes and right click your printer and click properties and under the advanced tab you can untick spool print documents. and untick print spooled docs first. see if that works.

GRRRRRRRR. I got the dependencies to show in the panel now, but I'm STILL not allowed to start the spooler! If you can't help me, do you know of a good site that can? I'm sorry, but this is TOO frustrating! DARNIT!

CNETHelp.com is a good place for problems with hardware software etc.
You are logged on as the administrator right?

I'm the only one who uses my pc. Yes. Thanks for being so patient and willing to help, but nothing is working.

try to start up your computer in safe mode (press f8 when booting) and start the spooler service . or type msconfig in the run box and click services and enable all. if it is greyed out then just untick one and then click enable all.

I've been here before. My mum had a new printer that refused to install (after she borked the installation of an older printer). A week of research was useless; I had to reinstall Windows. I hope you don't have to resort to similar tactics.
