Please Help PJ64 Hates Vista

Could someone please help. I got a new laptop that runs on Windows Vista, the emulator doesn't work correctly. I have gone into properties and set it as run program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (which is what my old laptop ran on). However the emulator does open, but it has no data for the Legend of Zelda game. I can find my save files, but the original ROM is not showing. I am sure it didn't get lost in the transfer as everything dealing with PJ64 is in one folder. Is there something special I need to do to get it working again?

I did however to transport the files move the folder to a removable hard drive, than pasted them onto my new computer in My Documents. I don't think this would have anything to do with it though, but I'm not sure.

I don't really don't want to start a new game file since I was far in the old ones. If that is the only choice or whatnot I will do so than. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Uncheck the compatibility mode for Windows XP. That won't affect anything.

What exactly is happening when you open up Project64? How are you loading your ROM?

When the screen comes up where it usually said the game ROM name it has nothing. I searched through my PJ64 folder where I saved everything and I can find my game save files and other stuff, but that's about it. I looked at the ROM directory and it is set the PJ64 folder where all my stuff is kept. I tried going up to File Load ROM, but as I said all I can find it my save files. I know I didn't move the game ROM location when I transfered the files. Everything was saved in that folder and I transfered the whole folder.

In properties in security is says something about Admin, but I don't quite know how to set it. I just checked in compatibility and checked run this under admin settings. But however the ROM list still did not load or show.

I'm going to take a stab and ask you to goto settings and reconfigure the folders where pj saves stuff.
Then refresh the rom browser if needed with F5.
It sounds like folder problems rather than any game/file related problem.

there is no better version, unless you want to donate to get your hands on 1.7 beta.

I'm going to have to agree, try redumping the game off of your original cartridge using the dumping tools that is if you actually own the game and tools and didn't download it off of the internet which you aren't supposed to do.

I use Project 64 in Vista just fine with absolutely no issues whatsoever, so it definitely sounds like a bad/corrupt rom.

It does not sound like a bad rom.
It sounds like pj cannot find the paths it has been configured with. This is easily something that happens if you move it from one directory to another.

In the settings it assume we want to do nothing with the plugins. Or do you mean go into ROM directory. In settings there is the tab called options with options about he emulator, such as full screen when it's opened. And hide advanced settings. Would I want to uncheck that one? Or is there no need to. Sorry for my stupidity.

It's been so long since I last used it, so I can't say for sure, but try unchecking hide advanced settings. It typically tends to hide a lot of stuff.
And I have really no idea what you did that prompted the new error message. You'll have to be a little more specific, if you can.

I tried to load the ROM, by going up to load ROM, it's not showing on the ROM list screen. I try loading the ROM file and it says that that one plugin is missing... Sorry I don't know if I can be any more specific. And yes unchecking that did give me more options.
