pj64 runs crappy on 1800+

i use pj64 for in y home theater pc and have great results with my geforce 1. But recently i upgraded to a matrox g550 because of two reasons:

1-better tv-out
2-fanless

but since ive reinstalled everything pj64 wont run descent even mario64 give my proc. a load of 100%.
although ive read numerous times on this forum that the processor is the most important, coul it be that the matrox g550 is the cause of this major lag

specs:

1800+
matrox g550
256 MB 2100

I would assume the matrox card is the problem since you didn't have any problems with the geforce.
