pj64 port to dreamcast

just wondering if a n64 emulator has been ported to dc yet. it would be pretty cool because its the only emu that i dont think is on dc yet. oh well.

1) The dreamcast hasn't got enough CPU power to run the emulator.
2) The dreamcast hasn't got enough memory.

The Dreamcast can barely run Snes emus at acceptable speeds what makes you think they can run an n64 emulator?

Do you realize that the N64 cartriges are not CDs and must be stored in the Dreamcast RAM in order to run? (at least at acceptable speeds)

Do you realize that Dreamcast has only 16MB of main RAM which must be used to load a N64 ROM, to create a virtual N64 RAM (N64 has 4MB RAM, 8 with the expansion) as well as for other "stuff"?

Do you realize that even the fastest existing N64 emulator can hardly run on an x86 CPU that runs at 200MHz and needs at least 32MB RAM?

I don't say that it's impossible to run a N64 emulator on a Dreamcast. But in the best case, you could run games that are small in size (probably 8-12MB) and the speed hit would be big, except if the developer spends a lot of time to push his skills, knowledge and the Dreamcast to their limits.

As for Project64 itself, porting it to the dreamcast is simply impossible (due to the structure and requirements of Project64).
In any case, creating a new emulator designed to run only on a Dreamcast would be the only option.

never the less the Playstation has less ram, less processing power and worse graphics than your average nintendo 64 and therefore 90% even if it is true would only get you around 30% speed of the N64 on the dreamcast. [and thats IF it was a completely new one that was severely optimized like Psyman suggested]

Besides who's going to put the effort in to create an n64 emulator for a half dead console when there is emulators for the Xbox and PC? I don't think there is much demand for such a thing in the first place.

PSX Specs -
CPU: 32 bit running at 33.87MHz
RAM: 2 Mb
Polygons: 360,000 per second
Resolution: 640x480


N64 Specs -
CPU: 64-bit running at 93.75MHz
RAM: 4MB (36Mb) upgradable
Polygons: 150,000 per second
Resolution: 640x480


After a bit of researched, I've compiled that. Compare for yourselves, and make your decision about if emulating N64 on a DreamCast is possible, assuming that PSX really does run at 90%

He's probably referring to Bleemcast. As I recall though, only three versions were released. One each for GT2, Tekken 3, MGS.

So, no. Not 90%
