I'd miss the good ol' greenback, but I say better plastic than those damn dollar coins they want us to use.

I like our (The US's) currency. There's just something about our money that symbolizes tradition and stability.
Even with the last redesign or our money, Congress wouldn't allow color changes, changes in the paper itself (It still had to snap like it always has), but the did want security measures increased . (I watched a PBS special on it :) )

The paper currency of the united states is uniform. All the same colors and all the same size.
It makes our money easily recognizable.

1. American Money burns a piculiar color.
2. It has a large watermark.
3. It has microprinting of "the united states of america" around the president's picture on the front.
4. It has color-shifting ink.
5. It has an embedded in different places on the bill, the threads denote the bills amount.
6. The lines and waves around the president's head, when photocopied come out very strangely and distorted.
7. The paper is a special cotton-linen blend with colored fibers embedded in it.

I'm sure there are more, but I don't remember them, and some of them are probably secret.

But it's obviously not very good for partially sighted people is it? Also, your security features don't sound all that...

that's less than a British note, well for those that are easily identifiable by your average person, the euro has loads of them though, it's got overlapping images on both sides which held up to the light arrange themselves in a particular manner which I though was highly impressive, the euro is easily harder to forge than some of the british notes, (forged fivers have become rather prevalent recently), and these measures won't stop forgery either just delay it, and it's not like a credit card/ debit card can stop forgery either, it's an ongoing battle

I don't like the US dollar because the different denominations are so easily interchangeable, and a dollar coin isn't that bad an idea, we've got £1 and £2 coins and they work fine, I prefer them to old £5 notes at the moment.

Bah, we should get back to the medieval golden coins. Now that was a great piece of currency.

I prey, not pray.
The main intent of the current greenback is to make it so that its expensive as hell to counterfeit an exact replica of a paper note, as well as be pretty durable, and be cheap as hell to produce (2.5 cents per note). All of the above they do quite well.

UK paper money isn't nearly as durable as US greenbacks, so I can see why they want to switch to plastic, but IMO I hate carrying my drivers license, school id, credit card, debit card, etc, as is, let alone carry one additional plastic for every bill that I have (would make my already thick wallet even thicker). Unless of course it became culturaly acceptable for men to carry around purses, which may be OK to brits, but I don't like the idea :p

rofl, and pound notes are VERY durable... dunno where you are getting that info from. The idea I support the Euro is basically because I can import shit cheaper from the continent then, without the hassle. I can also sell easily to the continent aswell :) Plus, it helps break down the national barriers, which I support... roll on superstate :) rofl...
