P64 Keeps Quitting, Needs Reinstallation To Play

I have 1.6 installed, all defaults. I can install Project64 and play a game just fine but if I close and then reopen the program and double-click on the same game, the program quits and the game doesn't start. I have to uninstall then install the program again for it to work and it does the same thing again. I tried searching the official FAQ and this forum but apparently no one else has had this problem before. If anyone can help, I'd be much appreciated because it does get old reinstalling just to play a game again. Other than that, great piece of software though, I'm going to be playing it for hours.

Nope, nothing. At least with an error message I'd have somewhere to start and I could think of some things to do to fix it but I have no clues to what's wrong.

bump. Does anyone have something I can try out to see what makes a difference? I'm at a loss because I have no idea where to start.

yeah i haven't heard of exactly this before afaik.
does deleting project64.cache between sessions get it working?
if so/as workaround try playing with the rom browser turned off
