What's new

One Year And Nothin.

I was a huge fan last year when i got my hands of the first ver. of Chankast. I was part of the 80people who would fill these forums and talk for hours on end. I loved when they would release beta after beta with fixes to improve the emulation experience. But that was a year ago. I respect the team for what they have done but i think it time for them to go open-source and get others involed to speed up the process. Im no programmer but promise of new releases and improvements i think its time to put up or shut down.

*Keep in mind this is just the opinion of one dissapointed fan and i hope the rest feel the same.

Oh boy, another person complaining about not getting what he paid for. Well, just get yourself a refund then. Mreh, I'm tired of posts like this.

One good reason not to go open source is that then you don't get a bunch of half-working "improved" ports floating around the internet with little or no technical support, and don't give credit to the original devs.

I don't mind the wait myself, having just recently found the emulator, so all of its features seem quite new to me. But if I had to wait a year before the next release, I would, because that would mean that it's getting done right. They're not rushing it, and they're not open-sourcing it so that they can stick to their goals. However long it takes to get there is fine by me. I've waited longer for other programs before.

no one is complaining. people like you are really disconnected from reality. someone states there opinion on how progress could be achieved. your a fool to posture yourself that way. at this point you should question the lack of communication.

other guy half working emu's? these devs are good, but not the only ones who can code ;)

yes, lets wait....

You can't tell that the original post in this thread is pure complaints? o_O I am not as far off of reality as yourself. I can understand that the emu developers are nobody's slaves, and thus I don't make any attempts to bitch/whine/moan/complain about the year that has gone by without progress. Those that feel justified in making threads like this (and the people who back them up) seem to have forgotten that nobody OWES them anything. They write these emulators as a hobby, and then give it away. If we never see anything from the Chankast team, would you not appreciate what they have given us so far? I would say I am. Just a suggestion: Think BEFORE you post.

now a name in green thinks they should keep it a secret. because someone posted something they didnt agree with.

isnt that a little too sensetive? childish?

the devs are mature and stable. use them as role models please.

i havent read too many threads like these where people state they owe them anything. no one thinks that.

...but in every one there is some guy with a 1000 posts immedeiately there to jump down your throat. maybe its time for the confusion to stop. its time for a little communication.

chankast was great. was. its over. i hope everyone can find something else to look forward too. there will be other emu's better emu's.

if you cant let go a DC is 15 bucks away!

I notice you still didn't take my advice about thinking before posting. You should know that the "name in green" falcon4ever is a beta tester, thus he assists devs. So what you basically told him was to ask the people he helps to be a role model. o_O
Note: not taking anything away from F|RES, ector or any of the other authors. Just filling this guy in on the facts.

Opensourcing an emuproject doesn't always improves the emu, jojo.
Anyone remembers what happend when pj64/dolwin became opensourced? ...

/me agrees on this:

And besides jojo, since the emu isn't your property you shouldn't ask it to opensource, that's just not kind.

The "names in green" usually pop-up when someone like you is making stupid questions and comments.

From posts like yours it's obvious that many people think that the developers owe them something. Either if that "something" is a new release, the sourcecode or even a news update in the Chankast homepage.

Guess what? The time has come for a guy with more than 1000+ posts to jump down your throat (Yup, that's me!).

That's what I'm saying. Now go and read the rules of the forum. It's stated there not to ask for status updates, releases or the sourcecode of an emulator. If you don't like it then get out of these forums asap :)

Every emulator "was" great up until a new version pops up... (ie: visit this page and notice when the previous update was before the latest release --> http://www.pj64.net/).
Chankast might be over. It may stay dead or it will be "revived" someday...

The funniest thing is that there are so many people asking for the sourcecode in order to "continue" the project. Why? Since the Chankast developers are not the only coders why do you want the sourcecode of their project? If you're such a good coder yourself then make your own emulator and add whatever you like to it.

nice talking PsyMan. but don't you think it is better to have some news from them? i don't ask new version , i have my dreamcast since many years ^__^ (shenmue rules!)

It would be nice to hear any kind of Chankast related news from them. It's up to them to inform the rest of us if they wish to do it. There is no way to change that despite the amount of people that come here and ask for updates, releases or the source.

Asking for news every day in these forums will not change anything and it's annoying (not to the authors but to the rest of us who keep reading the same thing over and over again). There are other -more direct- ways to contract the authors for these matters (ie: e-mail).

It's certain that the authors are reading these requests but they either just ignore them or they have nothing to show. As I already wrote, it's up to them to respond and this will not change despite the number of people who keep asking for news, releases and the source.

but thats the thing if they were reading the posts and infact they did mention they were gonna release a new version soon but then vanished, someone would of posted something by now from the group. I assuming that the major developers have gone sparate ways or lost contact and no on is bothered i am just assuming this. Anyway who cares there is another one being developed with maybe naiomi and automasive or watever it is called

You don't understand the authors, so don't "assume" anything. Anyone who has been around here from a long time would know that there usually is little news from authors at times, and they decide to release something at times.

Anyway who cares there is another one being developed with maybe naiomi and automasive or watever it is called
Yeah, and you can go dump yourself somewhere. Go whine at their boards.

It could be three years and nothing... a while ago Zophar's reported that an emu which hadn't been updated for that long suddenly being updated out of the blue. So it's not like Chankast is an unusual case. Loads of emus get many frequent updates and then suddenly go "dead" for ages (Project Tempest and Gens, to name but two). You'll just have to be patient for the next person. I find the best way to do this is simple - to try and stick it at the back of your mind for as long as possible so that you're not tempted to post such intellectual messages as "zomg whenz deh nu vershun cumin out???///".

im really impressed isnt this a Forum where people have the right for thier own oppion isnt a Forum about expressing your thoughts ?

and "generalplot" your 300 posts are those all about telling people how stupied they are becouse they might not share your oppions ?

as a side note i agree with its annyoing hearing "when will the NEW version come / have anyone hear anything from the authors yet" questions but really is it nessery to flame people why not just ignore them ?? my point are it dosent make a nice picture outside when people come here for the first time ...

and if this are standard behaivor i can understand the authors stays away ...

i would say if you dont agree with a poster why flame just tell that person why you dont agree and if a poster do post something wrong or really stupied im quite sure the Mods, admins will handle it without 10 people starts flaming that person ....

Are you not free in this world? Can't you do anything you like? Can you run a red light? Can you shoot someone?

Simply put, if it breaks the rules NO!

You can have your opinion, but respect the rules on this board.

Edit: Please understand that this is not a personal attack against anyone.

If you believe that, then may I suggest you look at my profile? You will find that the majority of my posts are helpful to people who ACTUALLY need help. But in these kinds of threads where the basic topic is "I want a new toy", well, I can't help but feel that the user isn't asking for help, but is rather sying he is not staisfied with what he has been given so far. Do you share the opions expressed by this bellyacher? If so, my warning to both of you is that you will not find much help from the users here concerning your "need" for a Chankast update. Stick around for a while, you'll see what I mean.;)
