Next Generation Emulators

I havent been following the emulation scene recently, I was wondering if anyone could give me a synopsis on the progress of Next Generation (ie PS2, XShit, and GC) Emulation. What are the up and coming emulators hitting the scene and how close are they to getting a decent retail game running?

Tried Google? XBOX emulators are already working in limited form, Dextrose and some that crew have basically released an emulation layer that redirects XBOX system calls to Windows boxes and lets us play some XBOX games in 50-60% compatible state. So far Panzer Dragoon Orta works pretty much. Calling it XSHIT is silly tho. I have lots of consoles and my XBOX is great. I'm sure many here disagree but then many here don't own one. Nuff Said.

PS2 - PCSX2 has been making programs, alot of games going in-game, a few playable.

XBox - caustik and the CXBX team have been making loads of progress, Turok has become playable. Xeon is another XBox emulator.

GC - Lots of progress here as well, a few games are playable, Dolphin and Dolwin are the main players here.

Just Another Wacko ;)
Let's see... Here is a list of all the known to me emulators of each system (Excluding fakes of course):

PS2
PCSX 2: Probably the most advanced PS2 emulator. It runs some games slowly. It also uses dynarec. Open source.
PS2Emu: It runs some games slowly. It also uses dynarec.
neutrinoSX2: It runs Blade 2 and Mortal Kombat 5 slowly. Open source.
EMUtion Engine: It runs some demos.
All of the above use the same plugin system and have severe GFX and sound errors.

GC
Dolphin: The most advanced GC emulator. It runs some games and a few of them quite fast with minor GFX errors (ex: Bust a move). It uses a plugin system. It also uses dynarec.
Dolwin: It runs some demos. Latest unreleased wip versions can run some games. Open source.
gcube: It runs some games a bit slowly.
WhineCube: It runs some demos.
ninphin: It runs some demos. Unreleased

XBOX
Cxbx: It runs some demos slowly. Latest wip versions can run Turok evolution fullspeed (with minor GFX errors) among with some other games. Open source. Sources of wip versions availiable.
Xeon: It can run HALO slowly.

Ooops, I think that I overdid it a little, thx for the tip :p
I removed the "slowly" from all the emus that run only demos (just in case).

GC:

dolphin (TEASER) runs a bunch of games, from slow to average to fast (BAM and N puzzle collection)
Dolwin, runs demo (slow), latest betas are showing stuff in some games (BAM is playable but a bit slow)
Ninphin, plays some demos, slow,
gcube : runs most demo at an average speed, now runs some commercial games too (average speed to slow)
Whinecube, only plays demo, fast, sound support on most demo that has some (most advanced demo emu) and also got 4 players support.

Hehe well thats more of a hatred of Microsoft (Microshit) than a hatred of the actual console. Ive never even used an XBOX so I really dont know anything about it :p

Thanks for the info guys, sounds like its coming good. I'm really mostly interested in PS2 of course for Final Fantasy 10, 10-2, and 7-2 (though I'm a bit worried they are going to trash my favorite FF7). And I also wanna try out .hack and I'm getting more and more anxious. Wouldnt mind a go at Zelda either but those are gonna be more difficult to get cause from what I understand its all roms again. Thats why I like PSX/PS2. Standard CD's and DVD's are easy to emulate and still be legal.

Yeah the movie is actually called Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Cloud never looked so good. The PS2 FFVII hasnt had any official information released yet, Ive also heard of a remake of the original FFVII for PS2.

Hi dude, been a while...

Anyhow, sorry to burst your bubble, but FF7 Advent Children is actually a movie and not a game. There is no FF7-2 in the making (as game), at last afaik. Google for "ff7 advent children trailer" and you're bound to find some downloads :)

yeah I know Advent Children is a movie, hence the reason I mentioned it was a movie :p. But I have heard they are making a FF7 for PS2. Its either a new game or just a re-make of the original but it has been mentioned by a few Square officials. From the information Ive been gathering, its looking like its a PS2 remake of the original with a lot better graphics.
