I've downloaded Project 64 version 1.6, and am having some problems. First, I'm trying to play Mario 64, and it's very jerky. I would think my hardware would be up to the challenge:

3.6 Ghz Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading
1GB DDR PC3200 RAM
ATI Radeon X600 Pro with 256 MB RAM
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro

Also, I don't yet have a controller. I do have an adaptor that plus into a USB port that allows me to use my PS2 contoller, though obviously this won't work for the Nintendo 64. Is there an adaptor that will allow me to use an actual Nintendo 64 controller? What about a Gaecube controller-will that work?

Last, I'm trying to output my signal to my TV via the S-Video output on my video card. I've installed the latest driver, but there's flickering and a rolling bar on my TV. It's a 24" Sony CRT SDTV. I've played with the refresh rate, and that doesn't seem to make any difference (60, 70, 72, and 75 are available). Any ideas?

well, the flickering is the signal from the computer to the tv. try a better connection. with mario 64, try to get a better graphics plugin. my mario was like that, but Rice's Video works really great. if that doesnt work, then get eVoodoo, that works really well.

The PS2 controller should do fine, as long as you remap the buttons in a convenient way. I do prefer a GCN controller, because the analog stick it's much more sensitive and precise then any other controller, and it's very close to the original N64 controller in terms of feel.
You could also happily remap the c-buttons on the c-stick and still have 2 extra button (x,y) to assign some macro for example.
Adaptors are sill sold at lik-sang(dot)com ,mine it's called trio linker plus, and it really works flowlessy.

I was thinking about possible upgrading my video card from the ATI Radeon X600 Pro (PCI-E x16)to an ATI Radeon X800 Pro (PCI-E x16) but would I notice any boost at all? I don't plan on playing any PC games, just emulation. I was thinking MAYBE it might help with Nintendo 64 emulation (I now the others wouldn't need it)?

no, your PC is about 6 times? more powerful than PJ64 needs to run Mario64 smoothly.. you need to set it up properly, not buy more stuff. theres a troubleshooting section on the site for things like this.
