Hi, um, no offense or anything, but I get the impression from random searching that owning ROMs in any way, shape or form is illegal. People asking for their locations are severely cautioned, if not virtually kicked in the proverbial Mean Bean Machine. The question is, why emulate at all, then? Why have this nifty discussion forum to discuss programs that are, in the end, running things that are illegal to do? Is the whole illegality/no locations/whatever policy mere legal boilerplate covering a bunch of felonious miscreants who disregard the massive warnings about how "Ur br3aking teh L4W!", or is there some hidden high road that allows emulation to legally coexist with copyrights and whatnot without sullying the moral reputation of those who partake?

Because, honestly, I'm in the felonious miscreant group, if my previous actions in regards to downloading music, et al, are to be believed, though I've not yet violated any ROM-based copyrighting laws, to my knowledge... I'm just a little curious on how the whole thing is supposed to work.

In short the the site would not last long if the 'big N' relised that links were being given to roms so there is a zero policy on asking for them. There are many other things to discus about emu's besides 'where do i get x game'...

i have come around to the way some mods think.it is an agreed rule no rom requests are not allowed full stop regardless of legality.there are hundreds of sites allowing rom requests trouble is noone ever answers so the whole forum just degrades into a continuos spool of unanswered posts.almost anything you wish is on the internet these days just some of us are prepared to go looking for it.infact anyone joining an emulation forum then posting on legalities should be banned for sheer stupidity

Its not actually illegal to own a ROM if you dump it from the cartriage yourself. I believe there is some legal rule stating that you are allowed to own a backup copy to protect your investment and having a ROM on your harddrive counts as a backup(only one per game however. All others after that are illegal I think).

However, it is illegal to download a ROM off the net or link to somewhere that does. Hence the NO ROM REQUESTS rule.

hey, i think this guy DOES have a point though. IMO, the only 100% LEGAL emulation out there is PSX because for the most part, you run it offa a REAL disk. Sure there's images and whatnot, but you don't actually go through the same process at all. But anyway, just how many people have the power to actually rip their own games? I am 100% sure that everyone in this forum has at least one illegal game. Nobody uses those "legal" roms, because they all suck. I know that some games for the Genesis, NES, SNES, etc. have actually been declared legal such as Pong, Zero Wing, and many others, but for the most part, they're all illegal.

(OFF-TOPIC)
I have a question for those religious types out there: Am I going to hell if I use emulation? Ha ha ha. This question actually troubles me. Also, why are you always such a prick, 2fast4u? What do you have against everyone in this forum? I don't mean to butt into your life, but it seems like you want a lot of people to shut up and die (including me).

I wouldnt call my self religious, but i know a little about christianity and the Hell and heaven thing, For you to go to heaven or hell firstly you have to Beleive in such a place. and if you do there is only one way to keep your arse out of hell, and that is to have Faith in Jesus Christ, that he died on the cross for you, other than that, nothing matters. Jesus died for our past, present and future mischeviousness. christianity is the easyest and the hardest of religions, it is the easyest thing to accept christ and be forgiven, but after that, you get alot of gifts in your life that help you grow, and growing hurts. you cant know happiness without Badness, if there was no happiness there would be no bad, how would you tell the difference?

no matter how long time goes for, its still very short in eternity.

cheesy but true Jesus loves you ! All of you !

cheers big ears
