Need to be a bit more specific here. Coax basicaly means "single shielded wire". There are tons of uses for coax. Coax audio, coax component, coax network, coax rf, coax digital, etc...
BTW, when I first looked at BNC, you had me thinking of a type of video cable. The answer bayonet could also be right as well in your specific case.
