Hi! I hav'nt used an N64 emulator in MANY years. I remember when I UltraHLE came out, and I used it. Now I don't own a 3DFX card, so I need some help with which emulator I should use. Which one is the best and do I need to install any plugins or something else? This is my hardware:

Athlon XP 2600+ 1,9GHz Barton, DDR 768MB, GeForce4 MX 440 64MB

Thanks!

If you're using Windows, you might want to try 1964 or Project64.

As for plugins, which ones you want really depend on which game you're playing.

For video:
  • Rice Video (5.6.0), available for download in the Plugins download area. This works well with GeForce and Radeon cards.
  • Jabo's Direct3D6 (1.5.1), available as part of the Project64 download. If you get an error about creating the drawing surface, switch the desktop to 16-bit color before starting the emulator.
  • Glide64 (0.7 ME SP6), available for download in the Plugins download area... although, since you aren't using a 3Dfx card, you'll also need to use a 3Dfx emulator.
  • Direct64 (0.5 alpha) is an excellent plugin, but I seem to recall that GeForce MX cards can't use it, because they lack Pixel Shader support.

Sound plugins are a different story. Generally, different sound plugins sound good with different emulators. For instance:
  • Jabo's DirectSound is pretty good for use with Project64 (comes with Project 64), but the sync option for it doesn't work in 1964.
  • schibo's is good to use with 1964 (comes with 1964), but doesn't work with all games.
  • Azimer's sound plugins sound good or excellent depending on which you use... but have a high CPU cost. Also, finding Azimer's latest version is a chore... I don't remember where it's located at the moment, and it's not on the Sound Plugins board.

nRage's Direct-Input8 V2 (1.82) is the de facto input plugin. Unless you're using an Adaptoid, that is.
