My computer has a mind of it's own!

It just turns on randomly, especially when I have other computers on on the same network. It's really creepy actually. Any ideas of what could be causing this (besides a ghost of course ). I did build the computer, and it seems to run perfectly fine. Powerswitch works fine as well, when it's me who's using it of course. It really isn't that often though, only turns itself on a few times a week.

if it turns on while unplugged you should be really worried , but as martin said must be the "wake on lan" option on the bios.

My PC used to come on sometimes in the old apartment if I used the fluorescent light that was connected to the same circuit/breaker. Or possibly as mentioned, some sort of Wake on LAN action going on?

Yep Wake on lan sounds like it, I remember this computer doing it too, shit the girlfriend up a bit when I wasn't here I told her how to fix it though, so she didn't have to physically unplug it everytime.

My computer used to come on all by itself after I pushed the little button on the front. But your problem is probably wake on lan.

Nice case, my neighbor has the black one. Its either wake on LAN, or a problem like I had, your power button shorting out the power headers on your motherboard.

I have the black one aswell.. nice, but hella heavy and attracts dust and fingerprints very easily due to the polished finish.

I just have to wonder how wise it is to stick a pc right in front of a window, in direct sunlight, during the summer that will cause it to heat up a significant amount, you can easily fry a monitor doing that, which is why you're not supposed to stick them in direct sunlight either.

i had a strange prob kinda like that see i had my old pc on a desk and i was using a big 600w reciever and pre-amp and when i would turn on the power on the amp it would make the computer go on but i think it was maybe cause the power cords were about 4in from each other it had a old power supply where the power on conectors were on the power supply and not the motherboard if the lan boot doesnt work check you're cords but i dont think newer power supply's will do that though....

the products arent built to resist certain conditions so by exposing them to those you are probably voiding your warranty.

i remember frying my psu two summers ago, probably as a cause of heat.

As 2fast4u said, it does violate the warranty, which is why they specify operating conditions, if you do not follow those guidelines the problem is your fault and thusly not covered by most, if not all, warranties.

And do you really want to start testing component by component for damage and replace them? Do you have any idea how time consuming this can be?
