MVC2 works!!.... briefly.

Nooooo!

Ever since the first release of Chankast, I have been trying desperately to run MVC2 on Chankast to no avail. I have a PAL self-bootable version of the game, mounted with Daemon 3.29, and running on a 2.5Ghz Laptop with a SiS 650 graphics card. I know SiS cards are generally not recommended for Chankast, but I can't change it on a laptop. So I had to use 3D Analyze with "force SW TnL" and "force 16Bit zbuffer (without stencil)" checked, but the emulator still mysteriously crashes during the "Capcom" intro screen, which I thought was a result of my sub-standard graphics card. So I gave up trying to run the game months ago.

However, today I decided to take another crack at it and, just for the hell of it, I switched the input plugin from "Input Interface by ELSemi" to "Input Interface XXX". I mounted the image, selected the Capcom Hack and VGA cable type, ran the game and..... IT WORKED!! The game paused temporarily on the Capcom screen, but it continued onto the main game without fault! I was overjoyed! The only problem now was the 10fps frame rate, so I decided to quit the game and try restarting to see if it made any difference. I ran the game again and.... it crashed on the Capcom screen! NOOO! I don't understand what could have caused this. I ran the game EXACTLY as before, but for some reason it still crashed on the Capcom screen just like always. How can Chankast be subject to such torturous flukes like this? I'm still using the "Input Interface XXX", so what else could I be doing wrong?

After months of troubleshooting, I'm hoping you veterans might have some advice to offer on getting this game to work. Please share your wisdom with me. T_T

I find this quite typical. There's a least one reply to every other problem mentioned on the board, but when I post mine up for troubleshooting, all I get is a collective stunned silence.

Can NONE of you offer any advice help me get the game running? Surely after all the questions that have been answered here, there must be a solution that applies to mine.

I've had it before when I've made rare threads for help. It happens usually if you ain't making a thread that's daft - and perhaps has no easily available solutions.

I can only suggest deleting the emulator folder and then re-extracting the emulator. Or mess about with the CPU + and - functions (+ and - on the keypad). Maybe they'll help getting over the problem part.

This'll bump it up at the very least eh.

That's another problem... I don't have + or - keys! At least not in the same manner as common Qwerty keyboards. You see, I have a central eastern Qwertz keyboard that looks like this:

http://www.uni-regensburg.de/EDV/Misc/KeyBoards/east03l.jpg

As you can see, the + key is located on the 1, and the - key is next to the right shift. But when I press these keys during emulation, they don't make any difference to the CPU speed. (It stays at 100.) What can I do? ;_;

I'm afraid not. Only desktop computers have numpads, but they're not found on laptops due to lack of space. So what's the alternative?

When you normally use + or - do you need to use the shift/alt key? Looking at the picture above, that doesn't seem to be the case, which strikes me as a tad bizzarre (ie numbers usually take precedent unshifted/alt'd/ctrl'd

So yeah, try holding shift, ctrl and alt (alternately) with 1 to see if any of them work; though I'm guessing you've already tried this, just in case you haven't though :D

Holding Ctrl, Alt or Shift doesn't work, and I even switched my keyboard input to the Qwerty layout and pressed EVERY key, but nothing changed the CPU speed. Any other suggestions, Trotterwatch?

If your laptop has either a PS/2 or USB port, then your only option may be to plug in an external keyboard that has a numpad.

First, try the software Mountfocus Runtime Keyboard, the +/- keys there work fine, get it more less underclocked to 40, it works nice.

Second, are you sure you we're using the capcom hack?, with 2 ghz you shouldn't get that slow. Myself I have a Vaio U70 (1ghz, 512 ram) (-> portable MvsC2, SFIII3S, etc :D) and its a bit slow but playable (same case with Street Fighter III3S), thus your laptop should get full speed imho.

Third, can't help with you crash problem sorry, no idea. Weird about TnL switch, my U70 has no TnL support at all and works ok (got some texture errors in several 3d games though), and I'm pretty sure there was no TnL support on the Dreamcast itself (only xbox properly has it on the current gen of consoles)

I get some extra fps doing ctrl-alt-del and getting to processes and killing explorer, thus Chankast is the only app working. Try that also.

Moo.
Laptop computers do have numpads. There should be a function button that, when held down, will change "p" to "-" and ";" to "+" just as a normal numpad would.

The crash problem is likely caused by a dump that could be bad or by a CD that has read errors on it. But MvC2 should work on Chankast. Keep at it.

Chankast rocks ^^
If you are using Windows XP, you can use the graphic keyboard from the accessibility menu (In the Start Menu).

Ah, that did it! Thanks, Talbain. Although I did manage to lower the CPU speed down to 50, I noticed no real speed difference during gameplay. It only ran faster during the menu and character select, and the buttons became somewhat unresponsive. But I guess it really is useless to persist with my current graphics card. One of my mottos is, "You can't polish dog turd," and I guess that's my cue to give up. Thanks for all your help, everyone.
