mupen64_nogui not as good performance

Hi thanks a lot for making mupen64. I'm currently trying to integrate it into my mythtv box. I've compiled version .5 so I could have the _nogui binary. My problem is that when using the _nogui binary performance suffers and video is very choppy. The regular binary works fine, using the same plugins. These are the plugins I use:

gfx: Glide64
audio: mupen64 audio
input: blight's SDL
rsp: Hacktarux/Azimer hle rsp plugin

Any help would be very much appreciated.
