MSI GeForce4 Ti 4200 8x 128mb Question

Sometimes, when i'm playing any pc game (for example: jedi knight jedy academy, unreal tournament 2003) i noticed some "pauses" of about 1 second lenght, especially when rotating the game's camera 360°.
My video card's not overclocked.
My motherboard is an Abit NF7
CPU XP 2600+
Ram 512mb DDR PC3200@400mhz (not overclocked)
And of course my disk is defragmented, virtual memory set to 512mb.
I think it's not related to a bad system or software configuration.
Sometimes when i play a game, the pauses are not present, it's sort of random.
Please help me, give me some hints: is my video card damaged? should i go to the store where i bought the parts, if so, what part is givin the above mentioned problem?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Have you tried updating your videocard and mainboard drivers?
You can get em both on www.nvidia.com.
Some virus scanner running in the background might also be cause of pauses during games

Good luck

Siggie, i'm using the latest drivers, 2.45 and 50.52, and no program is running in the background. Perhaps i should update my bios? what do you think?

Grab the 52.16 ForceWare drivers. This may be part of the problem. Also, check if there are any updates to the nForce 2 Drivers on their site (I wouldn't know, I use a VIA KT400 based motherboard). Go through the process of elimination here. And be sure you've run Windows update too. Good luck to ya.

The truth is that i have tried everything by now, the only one missing thing to try is to update my abit nf7 motherboard's bios, i'am using the defaul one, version 12, and by this time, the most updated one is version 21...
Thanks Sandman anyways
