MAME Question

I am running a 1 GHz Pentium 3 with 384 MB RAM, 128 GeForce MX400 PCI video card. Is there any way I could get MAME to run Mortal Kombat (2 or 3) or NBA Jam to run well? Right now they run at about 8 FPS, which for my specs I think is slower than it should be. If MAME just utilized a chunk of my video card, it would run great. Any suggestions? Thanks

The video isn't the problem. The DCS sound system used in MK 2 and 3 is a cpu hog; runs pretty slow on my 1.6 GHz AthlonXP as well. The driver went through a revision a while back (v0.74 I think) which improved accuracy at the expense of speed, so using an earlier version should work better with your system.

As for NBA JAM... M.A.W.S. has a note for this game: Aaron Giles fixed the NBA Jam sounds by removing some speedup hacks, as a result the driver will be much slower. - That was in 2002 though, so I have no idea how far back you'd have to go to get a version that runs well on your system.

Is playing Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam on another system (Sega, for example) not an option?

Thanks for the answers...and as to playing it on another system...well, let's just say I've shut out the computer (110-0 was the record I think) on my good ol' SegaCD more times than I care to repeat. Arcade difficulty, even on easy, is freekin dominating (well in most games, I assume NBA Jam is the same). And the Kombats, don't even get me started on arcade vs. home consoles! Not even the same games. Well, maybe PSX compares but that got sold a little while back.

Thanks for that MAWS link too, great site

Running friggin great...full speed on both mk and nba jam...you guys rock
