Majora Mask transitions

hi there,

I'm using Project64 1.5, and I have some trouble with the Legend of Zelda - Majora's Mask rom. Whenever a new day has passed, the whole screen goes black and the frame rate drops to about 20. I can't see anything on the screen and the sound is choppy, after that happens.

I read in the Game FAQ that there is a problem with day transitions. But my problem seems more severe than that mentioned in it.

I'm using Jabo's Direct3d6 1.5 video plugin, Jabo's DirectSound 1.5 and N-Rage's DirectInput 8 plugins. I'm running the emulator on a 2.0GHz Intel PC with a ATI Radeon 8500 graphics card.

Can somebody help me with this? Thanks in advance!

Yep, but as your not using a Voodoo card, you will have to use Evoodoo too. And I'm not 100% sure that this particular effect will work at all well using that combination (if it does it will be incredibly slow).

darn another problem. I just installed glide and eVoodoo, but the colors in Majora's Mask are a little off. the heart meter, magic meter and some words are black.

the only changes I made to it's setting is uncheck Autodetect Microcode and Force Microcode 2. (i was having getting an error message about a uCode not being found in the INI file before I made the changes)

did I screw up somewhere?

I'd recommend using the Jabo's direct3d still. Just turn off the frame limiter when the screen goes black, it'll get done (should anyway) quicker. If not, you can wait it out, the game didn't actually crash, it just takes a few (30 or less) seconds for the next day to come. Using evoodoo and glide (at least with my experiences) causes way more problems that it fixes.

The answer is turn off self rendering textures in Jabos Direct3d 1.5/1.5.1! :p

That only helps with using the Lens of Truth. Though you should do it anyway, of course. It won't help the day transition though. :p

oh it does, i assure you of this, because i have tested it myself. it is what slows down the game immensely at the day transition.

btw we're not talking about the transition screen with the text "2 days remain" on it, we're talking about the shrinking screen effect..

Try it yourself if you do not believe me. (i've got evidence on the next 2 posts proving it)

You could also use Jabos Direct3d 1.4, which does not have self rendering textures, hence why there is no slowdown.

Anyway you should never have self rendering textures on for this game, all it does is cause problems, and its only use is the background in the item inventory.

Of course. Self-Rendered textures is the framebuffer, and the framebuffer is particularly slow on this framebuffer effect. Turning it off removes the framebuffer and the effect completely, so speeds the game right up, at the cost of accuracy is some parts/situations in the game.

yeah I think Jabo's Direct3D plugin's still the overall winner.

think I'll just wait for the day to pass, or try out that Self rendering textures option. thanks!
