Rotated grid always looks better on edges.

Multisampling only AA's edges, and misses alpha textures, while SS looks the same on edges but also AA's alpha textures and textures in general, but with a DRAMATIC performance hit.

Ideal AA would be a modification of Voodoo5's AA (RGSS) with the new Radeons' gamma-correct sampling included.

Currently the best AA implementation is in ATi's new Radeons - RGMS, with gamma correction in the sampling to make things more accurate and smooooth.

Unfortunately, the ATi Windows driver team seems completely against any form of super-sampling, as you probably know. :(
