Just a little help

First I've got to say, that Project64 really is the best N64 em out there. I've tried a few, and most of them just, well suck.

I only have one question about it though. For the most part, Project64 runs just fine, I can't believe how well it actually runs. But sometimes, it chugs just a little. And it's not really even the framerate chugging, it's just that every few minutes during a game, it will pause, just for a second. But it's usually every few minutes.

So does anyone have any advice on what settings I could play with to help out this little pausing? Is that there something I can turn on, or turn off that will help with it?

Thank you for any help

It sounds like your processor isen't strong enough and lags struggling to run the game.

It could also be a rom that the emulater is not comapitble with even though the game plays somewhat.

Maybe try the game with little or nothing else running in the background except the emulater.

If the framerate is good your video card is good enough, probably the processor.

Hope some of that helps.

AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2700+
2.16GHz, 256MB of Ram
Radeon Series

Yeah, that help. Thank you for replying. So you think it's my computer? ^That's my specs. Which I don't know much about them. So is that enough to run Project64?

You should run most games ok with that processor speed. From my trial and error you need a good AMD64 2.6ghz or better to run goldeneye and perfect dark with no lag and many other games that need a decent proecessor to run as well as pj64 can provide.

Your PC is not well equiped to handle PC games today.

So it's not well enough to run computer games of today(which I already know, I have to turn everything off to even get a descent framerate), but it's good enough to run Project64 and the roms?

Thanks for your help Starscream.

in the process manager (ctrl+alt+del)

you can right click the project64.exe and select above normal in the priority list.

Thanks squall, that definitely helped it. And so did starscream's tip of not having anything else running.

It still pauses for a second, but not nearly as much anymore. So it set to AboveNormal. But there's also an option for High, and RealTime in the TaskManager. Do you think one of those settings would make it run even better(not that it runs bad), or would it hurt it?

Thanks for the help

i would upgrade your ram to atleast a gig or so sometimes if you look at your task manager and click proformance and how much ram you have left

Is that where it says "Physical Memory"?

And yeah, I really need to upgrade. the only reason why I haven't is because I usually don't play games on my computer. I usually just browse, download, stuff like that. But there's some games that are just really tough to find, so that's where the emulator comes in. So I think I'm going to upgrade now. And I've heard people say that you should have at least a gig of ram. What else should I upgrade?

But like I said, Project64 doesn't run bad. It just does that little, one second, pause here and there. It's no where near enough to ruin the game for me, but I can certainly live without it.

nah, it probably won't make a difference.
