amen alpha, bsplay is for divx, btw, and it makes my divx look better than dvd, since i use divx on a comp monitor and dvd on a tv.

why not run Divx on your tv if your geforce 3 supports TV out, thats what im guna do when i get a GF4, and also connect it to my dolby surround stereo :D (does anyone know if divx still supports surround sound)

Divx uses mp3 as audio compression and mp3 doesn't support surround sound, so only stereo ;)

What's that...?
hey crhy, i use bsplay, its great, been using it for over a year now...i used my gf4's tv out to watch movies on my tv, it works good, but you loose some quality going from your computer to the tv, because the tv can't support as high as a res as your monitor.

damn, speaking of divx why dont they use OGG format for the sound? that would cut down the movie size quite drastically

1. It is really nice to see DivX movies on a tv :)
2. a. MP3 does only support two channels
__b. Divx movies don't always use MP3 as audio.
__c. AC3 can be used as audio in avi video... it just makes the files size a "little" bigger.
3. MP3 audio at a high bitrate (160+) sounds just fine on a Surround Sound system.

wonder if there are any formats other than AC3 that can store DD 5.1?

May sound "fine" but true surround is a hell of a lot better.

Another thing is OGG always sounds every bit as good as a CD on my end at 128k, (I have a bose LS12mk2 with a digital connection to my laptop) its indistinguishable, comes pretty close at 64k. MP3 at 256k comes close but no cigar.

The main reason for most divx movie use mp3 as its music format is because the tools that are accessable by most people only allows this type of encoding, plus encoding mp3 will take a lot less time than ecoding OGG format.

With AVI you should be able to use any audio format you want. I doubt the commercial divx spec (.divx extention) will stay with MP3 for long though, remember that fraunhoffer is charging licensing fees to even the free players.
