I just called my dad, and he told me that the main rig (the one stated in the specs) at my hometown was damaged by lightning (supossed to be a big badass lightning) and the UPS didn't handle it. The ISDN modem was damaged, so as well as the PC that is not posting. I know it can be just a damaged PSU, but since I'm here busy at uni, I'm unabled to test it, and I'm very worried. Other stuff like a phone and other things were also damaged in the house. I just wanna wnat to you guys to know. Please don't give me recommendations right now (they will turn me even more worried) because I'm away from home, altought I'll aprecciate then on July when I'll be back at home. :(

UPDATE: OK, a guy tested all things and the results are that the mobo and the CPU are fried, and the PSU as well.

Now, I haven't decided yet if buying a new nforce 4 ultra based mobo or buy the same mobo model again. The thing is that the videocard (Geforce 6600) is still alive and it is AGP. So if I buy an nforce 4 mobo, then I have to buy a PCI-E videocard as well. So I have to sell my current video card in order to do that.

Since this happened suddenly I didn't planed to "upgrade" so I don't have too much money. So I'll still have to decide...

Anyway, I was wondering: I know that Newegg doesn't accept international shipping, however I have a forwarding address in Miami, and I have a verified paypal address so I am wondering if would be possible for me to buy at Newegg (it would mean a lot of savings form me) what do you guys think?

I also want to you guys for giving me advice about good options for a mobo and a possible videocard. I was thinking in nforce 4 based mobo ( No SLI), possibly MSI or ASUS. For a videocard I was thinking in buying a Gigabyte Geforce 7600GS. SO what do you guys think?

I also request if is possible to move this thread to Tech Talk. Finally any help from you guys would be highly appreciated.

You could also buy the Asrock DualSATA2 and use you current AGP card, and also have a PCI-E slot for future upgrades.

It is Asrock a good brand? What about that ULI chipset? I hear that nVidia recently buyed ULI, but I still don't know too much about ULI chipset performance...

Not a great brand, but the board is very popular, the performance of the ULi chipset is almost on a par with nForce4 all around in Anand's review. It will save you buying a new video card, and the board is cheaper than a nForce4 Ultra board.

If you have more money to throw around, you could buy a Asus A8N-E and a 7600GS - but it'll cost you about three times as much.

I could easily sell it to you yegosimo, if you are serious. Just be sure to have 60 000 colones in your pocket

actually i would buy it but since my motherboard does not have an agp port i would have to buy another one (40000 more colones)
i was about to buy one like a month ago but i didn't have enough money

Sorry about your rig fella, i'd be deivistated if it happend to mine :(

still least its an excuse for an upgrade :)

nvidia now do nforce 4 motherboards (s939) with geforce 6s built into them as well as having a PCI-e slot. might be an answer to your geforce woes

I never will go with the 6100 integrated crap. BTW, do you guys know the difference between the vanilla nforce4 chipset and the nforce4 ultra? Is there a considerable performance difference btween them?

@Yegosimo, yes I posted at that site

Nvidia wouldn't integrate it if it was crap. I've used one before and it was just as good as having a dedicated graphics card

The only difference with the NF4 ultra is that it has a few more features like TCP/IP acceleration and SATA300 support

In case is not crap, I don't think it would be better than my current 6600, is not like I'm going to downgrade.

I think I'm going for the regular nforce 4 then since I don't have a SATA2 drive. Thanks for tetlling the difference
