I found two Super Mario 64 ROM's, neither works. I keep getting the Gray Sphere. What do I do? All I want to do is play SM64. I can barley understand the technical end. Please help!

Please, be more specific

Hi,

Please, when reporting problems try to be more specific. Tell us what error you get (copy and paste it) and the steps to reproduce the error.

If emulation is not perfect try adjusting your emulator configuration or try another emulator (As far as I know, PJ64 emulates SM64 very, very good). Anyway, many emulators emulates SM64 near perfectly. Check that the file you have is really a SM64 valid rom.

If you have problems, please, be more specific about the error. Including screenshots also helps. Thanks!

Please post your computer specs and video card. You can check these by running dxdiag and checking the System and Display tabs.

I have no idea what computer specs are. I'm not computer litarite. Can someone just please give me directions on how to get a ROM to work?

No offence, but you should be at least a little computer literate before you start experimenting with emulators.

I already gave you instructions on how to check your computer specs. There are no grey spheres in Super Mario 64. You may also have a bad ROM, in which case no amount of fiddling will make it run properly.

Are you sure they are actually two different ROMs? and not possibly a split archive?

I'm surprised at the number of users whom somehow stumble into emulation while not really knowing their computer in general. Makes you wonder what on earth made them think "hmmm wonder if I could stuff this cartridge into my computer somehow". hehe.

Seriously folks..Even people with YEARS of experience can be unsure of this, regardless how easy this is for us. I bet even Bill Gates don´t know how to use it, think about it..even though emulators have been around for LOTS of years, it is still very new..Heck, i had a teacher who have worked for IBM, is teaching computer skills to others his own age, leading evening classes and all, put simply, has MUCH more computer skills then ALL of us...And he don´t have a clue about emulators, even though he has over 40 years of experience. So, my point in this long, useless post is that both experts and beginners can be ??? at this stuff, so thinking that a guy is new to the world of computers just because he don´t know how to use emulators is just plain DUMB. There you have it, a long, useless post just to tell you how stupid and ignorant you are. And i respond to NO posts i get back, so don´t waste your time..

I´m agree with the first part but not with the second part of your post, at least he would have to know what computer has. Do you really think that somebody that does not know nor what graphic card has, we can help him in something?
"I have a computer and mario64 doesn´t work"
Do you think that this level is sufficient so we can help him? lol

I repeat that I´m FULLY agree with the first part of your post, but the second for being just the opposite don´t have to be true. (I learnt this in philosophy :p)

A computer expert would know what emulation is, even if only in computer terms (not in video games). Emulation doesn't only refer to video games, and was originally about computers. If they understand emulation (which they would if they were computer experts) they'd understand video game emulation.
