So, I wanted to share this story with you. It's friday, july 19th, 2002. At 7:00 AM, a guy named Redah awakened for a big day. So he made some sandwiches, took his camera, put everything in the car, and went up to get the most important bit of his journey downstairs. Kyona.
Packed in a blank box, she was carefully placed in the back of the car. And so they went, off to Amsterdam, over 200 kilometers away.
After several long hours, heat, and traffic jams, they reached their destination:
TeleCity is the biggest datacenter in The Netherlands, hooked up with very big pipes to the AMS-IX, Dutch backbone and outlet for all Europe - USA connections. Kyona was getting all excited in her box...
Showing our IDs, we were escorted by a security guard to our destination, our colo room. On the way, we saw very big datapipes:
and people:
We were instructed to head for cabinet Z2D-C06. Now... where was that...
Ah, there she is !
So we unpacked Kyona... and installed her... man, I can't tell you how happy she was. She immediately felt at home at her 100mbit connection, 24/7 room cooling, security, and she showed us her gratitude by giving us ping replies minutes after we placed her.
Good girl Kyona!
Sadly, we had to depart pretty soon after that. I couldn't resist one last look at her, tho...
I returned my security card to the front desk, and headed home... feeling very well about a Mission Accomplished.
Kyona is online!
